Best online store for outer belt weatherstripping? (outside bottom of door window)
So who knows the best online store- and manufacturer- and price!- for the outer belt weatherstripping? This is the guy found at the bottom of the door window.
I finally realized something. First, all my doors have rusted out at the inside bottom (where the door closes against the car). Second, all my outer belt weatherstrips have always been cracked.
Like an idiot, I finally realized the two are related. Cracked outer belt weatherstrip = water gets inside door from against window = door rusts away. Now if only I realized this back in '96 when I put those "perfect" doors on... argh!!
So I'd like to know of a good company (soffseal I guess?) and someone who ships out fast. Anybody know who makes the stuff that thirdgenresource.com sells? Or yearone.com sells? I need the passenger side most urgently (the door I'm working on now)... seems like thirdgenresource sells them either individually or as a set. But, if the manufacturer is garbage, I'd rather just buy a set now. Looks to be the same pricing everywhere (including jcwhitney who takes forever to ship), $30/side, $60/set.

I'll never purchase another piece of Soffseal again. If you put a piece of Soffseal weatherstripping next to a OEM weatherstripping, you can tell that the OEM has them beat in fit and material quallity, but not in price

Did you replace the outer belt weatherstrip? Did soffseal mess that one up, too? Funny; making this stuff doesn't seem like it'd be complicated!
Does GM even make these strips anymore? Every online catalog I've been to just has reproduction stuff- unless I missed it?
Oh wait, maybe I did. thirdgenresource.com says "GM" next to the weatherstrip, not repro. If so, that's the same price as the soffseal stuff...?

Well, I've never replaced the particular piece of weatherstrip you are replacing, but I'd assume the soffseal "quality" carries on throughout their product line. I tried 2 different sets of Soffseal window weatherstripping, and both times I had to return them (the door wouldnt close properly, the joint between the 2 pieces of weatherstripping that make the window seal looked like it was glued by a 5 year old, etc...). I purchased a GM piece and it fit like a glove, and it just felt and looked like a higher quality product. Night and day difference between the 2.

My soffseal weatherstripping is much higher quality than the OEM stuff I've used.

Just to sound like a skipping record. If you just want w'strip, buy aftermarket. If you want w'strip that fits properly and is made exactly for your car, pay the little extra and get OEM. Most all aftermarket seals do not fit properly (or sometimes don't appear to even be made for the dammed car) like OEM.
Most importantly ... do not buy belt w'strip from JCWhitney unless you like being pissed off. I won't bother with a rant but, trust me on this because regrettably, I bought it saving a whopping $8 (roughly) over OEM (gmpartsdirect). I now have OEM and the JC's are somewhere in the landfill...

I've replace every strip on the door. I've tried several manfacturers, but find GM is by far the best. I've found the aftermarket door weatherstripping to be too puffy and big, making it hard to close the door.

I replaced the outer window sweeps (lower outer weather strip) on my Camaro with a pair I got from E bay. They were repros and fit perfectly, they guy regularly sells weather stripping on E bay and the window sweeps were $69.

I got my outer window sweeps from thirdgenresource for 35 ea. They are NOS from GM. Beautiful and what a difference it made for the look!! Buy OEM or NOS if you want the thing to look and fit good.

Okay, cool! So GM weatherstrip beats out SoffSeal, 4 votes to 2. I'll go after the GM stuff. (JCWhitney sells soffseal) The thirdgenresource stuff -is- GM then? Maybe I'll go with them. I really just need the passenger side strip urgently- gotta make the "new" door look good for the ladies!
If only it'd stop raining so I could paint the sucker... hopefully my zinc Spray-Galv base-primer is keeping the rust away
Thanks guys!
