decklids

Is there a part number or something I can get to order a new decklid? Mine is just about gone, and I don't really want to get a whole new hatch just for one metal piece. Also, is "decklid" the proper name for the metal part of the hatch? I just can't find any sources for these things.

It looks like water got in throught the spoiler mounting holes. It just sat inside the metal part of the lid and rusted away. The plastic part on the inside is fine, as is the spoiler (both plastic).

I will try looking in a junkyard, but the locals have been telling me that most of the junkyard ones will have suffered the same as mine.

I had the same problem with my original one. I got a good one from the boneyard and had it painted with the rest of the car. When I reinstalled it I put sealant around all the bolt holes and ran a bead of clear silicone at the front of the spoiler. The damned thing is starting to rust already though!!

best place to find a deck lid is def the junk yard. these deck lids are metal, or at least they are on 82-84 models. I swapped one out a an 83 once for one that had the spoiler holes and it was pretty simple and easy. just don't tighten any of the bolts until after you close the rear hatch and then crawl in the hatch area from inside the car and tighten them at this point. this way you get the correct spacing from front to back and you know the hatch will latch. sounds not to fun but really wasn't to bad, just took a few minutes and I only did this once.
