headlights go down when driving?

headlights go down when driving?

:hail: <-- hey look my headlight!! my passenger side headlight has hesitation before it goes up then the actuTOR spins after it is up for a few seconds i figure the gear is stripped but why does it go down every once in awhile when i drive. also if i put my car in neutral and rev the engine aS I FLIP THE SWITCH THE HEADLIGHTS WILL COME UP WITH NO PROBLEM? whats that about. do the flip up lights run on vacuum or only the electric motors? any answers to these questions would be appreciated.

no vacuum what so ever!

Maybe because of possible gear damage the light motors require more power to move the light. By reving the enging you get a bit more juice out of the altenator?

Just a guess!

The headlight gears most likely are not stripped. The common thing that happens is that the plastic bushings inside the gear deteriorate and crumble. This allows the gear to free-wheel on the actuator shaft and the headlights will act just as you have described.
