I actually kinda like the SD hood, but it's just the principle behind the whole thing.

The Jongbloed hood is not my cup of tea either, but that's the type of thinking I wish were making all the hoods. It's unique.
Jongbloed with louvers would change your mind. I would get one as my next hood over an SS hood. I think they fit the lines of the camaro very well.

Most of these hoods looks terrible. Just you because it looks good on a 4th gen does NOT mean it will look good on a thirdgen. Look at all the variations of the hoods on 10 years of thirdgens, don't you think GM woulda used these ideas if they thought they looked good? I still think the RA2 for thirdgens of any brand is the the only hood ever made thats uglier than the daytona turbo Iroc hood. I normally accept any and all ideas....I always stick up for the guy gettin' flamed for whatever idea, but all these hoods are killin' me. DON'T do it. Just because they build it doesn't mean you have to buy it. I promise, you can still see the light....put the credit card DOWN.

What about the the bandit 2/shaker hood? That's cool, ahhhh, but that's not "IN" right now, is it?

I can understand the hood clearance issue, but dang, theres gotta be a better way. LT1guy, I hold you in the highest regard, and always look forward to your opinions and your modfications, but this one is better left to others. Put the credit card DOWN!!!
I have thought about building my own hood, and I probably could pull it off, but most of my ideas would require modding the bumper cover too, or making a new one out of fiberglass. A RAII hood that is integrated with the bumper, like a 4th gen, might be cool, but with the ram air scoops made more angular to match the lines of the car. I'm still considering giving it a shot, at least building a prototype hood to make a mold from. I agree all of the third gen afermarket hoods look added on, with the exception of the RA1; it flows pretty well with the stock lines. If I could get another one (traded mine to Zepher last weekend) that was taller, and was more open on the bottom I'd buy it. Maybe Glasstek...I'll have to check.
I agree that on some cars the stock third gen hood designs work well, but there are a couple reasons GM didn't offer stuff like this stock and it doesn't have anything to do with styling. I'd say it was partially lack of demand, partially warranty reasons (they still haven't gotten factory composite hoods right...all the SS hoods are POSs, full of pits and waves and they fit poorly), and the most important reason of all, cost. GM usually errs to the conservative side with styling. Look at the '04 GTO...props to GM for building it, but it looks like a rental car.

LT1guy, once again, i agree with you totally.

Your ideas for the RA2 hood sound great, and as far as the RA1 hood, again I agree...I think it's awesome.

Bigals87z28, i saw you post that jongbloed/louver idea somewhere else too. THAT sounds cool!:hail:

Part of the problem people run into that produce fiberglass hoods is the other chemicals that are in the area that effect the actual process. Take for example silicone where your laying up fiberglass or carbon fiber. The silicone even when its airborne can completly screw up your project, usually you can get away with it...

As for the waives, THat is a molding problem, and its not strong enough or I should say stiff enough to keep a good shape. I am not sure of all the changes that take place when working with fiberglass, but I know that its a chemical reaction, it heats up from the catilist, and then it cools off after the reaction is over. The heat causes it to expand and then contract, if your tool is not perfect, or stiff enough it will get rippley. As for the fit, thats just poor planing, IMO. On a similar note: Bondo is very similar to Fiberglass, and I know after years of being on a car it will sometimes show, and shrink.

As for the GTO... to be honest, its a Holden, designed for another country altogether, then Pontiacitized I think its an attempt to see how America will once again accept a rear wheel drive car, in the age of all FWD. With the exception of the Corvette, CTS & XLR, I can't think of another GM RWD car in the US currently produced.

personally

i think it would be a great hood for birds, i always loved that style, but after seeing the actual hood on a bird, the profile is just too tall, if it was a shorter profile hood like an inch or little more, it would be great, and id definatly get one

i contacted hawks and asked the manager about possibly shortening the heighth on the super duty hood with the promise that a bunch of firebird owners would jump on it but he said that creating a new mold and redesigning the hood would cost too much and even if we got a group order he would not do the redesign

bummer bc that hood would look so awesome if it was only 2 inches tall

I agree 100% with this and the 4th gen scoop comments.

Looking at it, I love that scoop but it’s too narrow, maybe too short and too tall for a ’82-90 ‘bird. I’d bet just making it wider would make it look 100% better

i think it looks very good on the 91-92 birtds, but on anything before that it looks way to out of place.

I have one on my '90...

Bought it from 87tpi. Looks nice. They won't get to your door without the odd wave here and there, but it's nothing to cry over if you know how to work on fiberglass...

I like the way those look. I've kind of been looking around for a replacement for my flat hood. I want either the 84 ta hood or one of these super duty hoods.

the stinger hood is the hood that was originally used on the older corvette stingrays. Thirdgen.org member jack_sparrow has a stinger hood on his camaro i think.

Hey,that's my old car The hood was nice but would be better if it was functional and had the hole cut for a grill.
