Shifter

could somebod please tell me how do i remove the shifter from a 1985 Firebird with automatic transmission. its the shifter with the button on the left hand side of the Handle???

on the front side of the **** there is a small staple like clip just shove a screwdriver in and pull it straight out i can make a diagram if you need but it's fairly simple once you do it

It's one of the hardest things to remove!!! What I did was... put on the emergency brake and put the car into drive (so you have room to get at the front of the shifter). Use a tiny screwdriver and I used needle-nose plyers to grab the tiny piece of metal (which does resemble a staple). Pull for dear life!
