anyone can remove one, and while others may say otherwise, i dont consider it a "do it yourself at home" kind of job.
basicly, you cut it out.
take some stiff wire, stick it thru the seal.... have someone on the other side grab the wire... then you and him can pull the wire around the glass, cutting the seal.
new windshields are bonded (glued) into place.

even if i built a car from the frame up id have someone else install the windows. Its just one of those things like pulling tires off a rim seems simple, but you just have to take it somewhere to get done.

replacing a windshield can be a DIY if you use the right materials and install it properly. If not, the integrity of a unibody car can be SEVERELY comprimsied in an accident.
You need the proper sealant, and you need to make sure the glass is pressed into it properly. Not rocket science by any stretch, but I've seen more done wrong than I've seen done right.

yeah, i've always heard that windshield swaps at home are pretty hard and should be left to a shop to do.. or do the rock thing.... get a fried to hit you in the face, then launch a rock through the windshield, go to insurance, say u got in a fight with some dick... pay the $200 deductable or whatever it is... problem solved for relatively cheap... my window has a crack.. so i need to get mine replaced too

I am going to need one soon also, i have had a very small crack like a star shape on the lower drivers side, looks like its from a rock, well now i installed two amps and the windshield vibrates from the bass. Today i noticed its gotten a little bigger than before. SUCKS!!
Depending on what type of insurance coverage you have you can get it done for nothing. I got hit with a stone from a dump truck cracked my windshield, I called my agent and they set up an appointment with me, sent someone to my house and did the replacement right in my driveway, no cash out of pocket.....Call you insurance agent and see if your covered.....

well i'm used to ICBC... the insurance company for British Columbia who are notorious for screwing people... that's what i'm used to... my friend's mustang had like $1000 damage and they wrote it off... his car was worth $6000.

id like to point out that the US federal gov has declared teh windshield a saftey device (like seatbelts) and as such in most places, the insurance company will replace your windshield for free.... and they shouldnt raise your cost of insurance or anything....
just FYI

its not like that everywhere in the states... the gov just says they're saftey devices....
depending on the state, the state may require the insurance company to replace saftey devices for free........ SC does, i know because ive gotten 2 windshields that way......
one was from somthing hitting the car.... the other one... well i was standing with one foot on the strut tower mount, the other on the cowl while puttin a engine in... and welll i uhh.... "sat" down on the windshield heh......

My insurance co. offers glass insurance for an extra $50 a year or so. And I don't trust those people who come to your driveway and do it. My jeep had one of those windsheilds, it broke again I went to get it fixed and found out they screwed it up bad enough I ended up at the body shop.
And changeing tires at home is fun, take the big *** 5in wrench (about 3.5ft long), put the handle on the tire and hole it there while someone beats it with a big sledge hammer on both sides. Now your deaf. Then use 2 bars to pry it off the rim, then drop the rim ontop of the new tires, jump on it, pull it do whatever, if that doesn't pop it on get it like halfway or more on, turn it over and tap it with the sledgehammer around the rim and that will knock it right on. And I forget how to get the other half back on. Its always fun, you end up with sore hands for a day, and deaf for an hour, but it saves you the $12.50 you would pay someone

You can buy a tool that will make it a ton easier to pull a windshield at home. I'm not sure what its called, but it came from a local body supply shop. The blade at the bottom goes in and under the glass, and then you hold both handles and pull it all the way around the windsheild. I have pulled 2 thirdgen windshields with it, and it definitely makes it easier.
