Window problems

Bought the rs it has power windows. The paasenger side rolls down halfway and makes a ratcheting sound and makes the same noise when its up all the way. I've been told the regulator is probaly missing some teeth, not a problem. The drivers window won't roll down at all. You can hear a click when you hit teh switch like the motor is trying to work but wont. I've checked teh switch and its good some one said the gears could be stripped. Anyone wanna shed some light on what these could be and whats the easiest way to replace them

Sounds like the moter is bad in the drivers side. If it was just striped gears you would here the moter just spinning. The passenger side does sound like a gear missing a few teeth.

ok, I've got a pretty stupid question, but oh well, lol. What's the difference between the motor and the regulator? My passenger window will go down maybe an inch then stop and I have to wait a couple minutes before it will go down again and I have to keep doing this until it is all the way down, lol. Same thing for going up. Is it the motor or the regulator?

Checkout the tech article on this website power windows 101. It has all the details on how to get the door panel off and fix or replace what is needed. I was able to get my working just by cleaning and greasing. The motor is a small electric motor that is attached to the regulator. The regulator is the device that controls the motion of the window, it constists of gears, slides and tracks. To figure out what is wrong with yours you will need to get the door panel off and see what is happening as the window goes up and down.

i wish i had a tape recorder to tape the sound for u but today i found out whats actually wrong with mine. the window leans in towards the car when its rolling down in turn the bottem of the that is in the door leans outward makes it slip on the gear which is making the noise. see if u push out on the window if it still does it

With the inner door panel off check to see if the regulator is mounted tightly. They came riveted on from the factory, but if someone worked on it before you they may have drilled out the rivets and replaced them with nuts & bolts, if so check to see if they are still there and tight. Also with the window up see if any of the arms or tracks have any play in them. There should be very little if any movement. If everything it tight the regulator may be damaged, possibly by someone trying to break into your car by pulling the glass away at the top. But before you pull the regulator assembly out rule out any other causes because it is a hard painfull job.
