ATTN ASCD hood owners!

Question: I received my SS hood for my 91 1LE (check my ride out under readers rides Mubie). I'm in process of fabricating more on the underside of the air inlet and also a ductwork to feed my blower the air sucked in by my hood. For you ASCD hood owners, you notice the underside of your hood where the bottom half is mated to the upperhalf (outer and inner shells). There is a lip and you can see where they mated / adhered the two halves all around the entire parameter of the hood. Has anyone filled this gap in? Seems to be 1.5" wide by 1/8 to 1/4 deep all around the hood? I was thinking fiberglass resin sanded out smooth, is this a good idea?

What's up man...I'm thinking the same exact thing you are. I have the same hood, and that perimeter of it seems stupid to me. I was thinking of mixing some liquid fiberglass, and just filling in that area smooth all the way around. I think that would solve the problem some people had w/ the two halves coming apart. It should give it some much added strength.

I dont own one of those hoods so you may not want my input but, I would imagine it is there for a reason. Although i could be wrong.

If you look at it, it just looks like they skimpped out on the material b/c of cost. They didn't want to finish it off that nicely, in my opinion. Same goes for how it ends by the windshield...it flows nicely, then just a fast right angle and chops off. I'm going to redo that as well. But, I definately say it would be a good idea to fill in that seam.

I'll post pics of what I'm doing. I'm filling in the fricken seam and finishing it off right. Then, I've ordered (2) of the center black vents and have cut outs for them in the rear of the hood. I've already reworked the underside of the ram air vent, this will allow me to fab in a bit of fiberglass cloth and filler to make the air come right into the engine compartment and not get split up as it is now. The way the hood ships with the ram air cutout the air will split and go inbetween the two hood halves and have no where to go except create seperation force between the halves. Like I said, pics to come.

I was about to say, What vents are you talkin' about? lol, I have the Ram Air I hood from ASCD. They have grills up front, but no cutouts underneathe. So, I'm not too concerned about that. I just want to fill in that ugly seem and "do it right" like you said. You'd think they would do it better than to just glue two halves on there any which way and call it a day

Thats what I did. I basically cut the back of the hood off and put a curved piece of sheet metal with some vents in it. It's kind of a crappy picture, but the holes have mesh in them. I'm gonna make another one one day, cause I had to use two pieces of metal, and theres a seam in the center.

Mitch...that looks kewl how you rolled the edge. That blocky square from the factory just looks gay. I'm thinking of how I could finish it off. Not sure if it would stick out so much when I paint it...but, who knows.

Thanks. You know what you could do? If you cut the back off, like I measured like 3/4 of an inch or something, cut off the bottom piece. If you got some fiberglass, you might be able to trim it down and sort of glue it an inch under the hood with some sort of vent. Thats if you don't want to use a piece of sheet metal.
Mine's just bolted to the cowl of the engine bay, so when you lift the hood, theres this goofy looking arc shaped thing sticking up there lol.

Here's what I was "going" to do before I bought (2) more of the center black air vents. I had some left over grill mesh and had measured out a length to be used on the rear of the hood. So, where the wall of hood is (rear cowl area) I was going to Dremel out a vent area and fiberglass in this mesh grill.

did you guys have any problems with the ram air hoods fitting correctly onto your cars? i just got the ws6 style one... and it's not fitting too great. it's up around the sides a bit, and it doesn't come down in the front all that much.

i think it could be my busted fender screwing it all up, so imma wait on sending it back to ascd until i get the fender on.

I had to re-adjust all the hood hinges...lower all the bumps...adjust the hood latch....and also adjust the fenders. After that, she lines up like a charm

Mine doesnt fit now, but thats only because that curb I hit wasn't too forgiving.
When I bought my hood 4 years ago, it fit like a glove. I lined up the spaces, making them even, and I was perfect. The ony problem I had was that my headlights were crooked, or sunken in the front a tad, and I never could get them to line up right. But I don't think its a problem with the hood being warped.

I got mine from ascd. I was going to go w/ Ramairhoods at first, then decided not to. I wanted the Ram Air I hood. The II just looks out of place to me on the bird...doesn't flow. With just some glassing, etc...I think it's a very nice hood. I have no complaints, and it fits like a champ!

Mine's an ascd hood, I bought it from Next Generation.
For the hood latch, the easiest thing for me was tightening the latch on the car, but leave the bar on the hood loose, line it up, close it, open it, careful not to move it, tighten it down. If it doesn't work, like mine did the first time around, I had to unbolt the latch from under the car, which was not fun.
