Roll cage info

ive seen some other posts on here lately about some people looking for cages. i am also looking for a cage but im not sure how much of a market there is for them. i want one but i want to get one that doesnt take a whole lot of modifications and is removable if i wanted it to be. also i was looking for one that i could still get use out of the back seats with. do i have a chance at all. pics would be sweet.

I'm in the same boat as you are.

S&W Race Cars make 8 pt. roll bars that offer custom bent door bars that clear the door handles. (Thats the way I'm going.)

As for use of the back seat- you can still have them in, but it would probably be a PITA for anyone to get back there. They'd have to get in thru the hatch LOL

if you want the roll bar to be nhra legal, then that pretty much rules out the use of back seats, or the possibilty of removability. in order for it to be legal, it has to be welded in, so it would be difficult to remove. you could go with like a 4 roll bar and bolt it in, but it really wouldn't be functional at all.

Spohn sells the S&W bars for 150 bucks for the 8 point mild steel version.

it cost more than 150 for the s and w cage becasue the bent sides to clear the door handels are an extra 40 and the swing out side kits are i think 85 a side extra. i just orderd one from him with all the options, but i have not heard back from him about shipping yet, and i orders it a few days ago. maybee the holiday's are causing the delay.
anyway, the swing out kit lets you remove the side bars out of the car when not needed and allows more access into the cockpit.

thanks

Yea, S&W hasnt gotten back to me yet about a possible GP on their 8pt roll bars.

As for the swing out kit, I am not a fan of them.

1.) I've seen too many doors messed up from not closing the bars or locking them.

2.) IMO, the swing out option weakens and therefor makes the door braces pointless. Its not as solid.

Im keeping my solid door bars. It may be a small PITA to get in and out, but who cares! Its not there for comfort!

are there any bolt in kits at all that you can get away with and still be legal if you had too. friend of mine had a mustang with an 8 point and the way it was designed she could still get her kids in the back but i dont know about any other people. is there any chance of back seats being functional with a legal roll cage at all. and with the swing out option what is this about ruining the doors if not latched in. are they a worth it option. hopefully someone has pics of the swing out bars.
