Should I use clearcoat?

I rattle canned my front end for a temporary fix until i get it painted. It came out good except it is a little dull and has some orange peel. should I use clearcoat? will it make it harder to remove the orange peel? or should i just wait a day or two, wetsand with 1500, and use 3m rubbing compound followed by polish and wax. Im just worried about not being able to get a decent shine.

yeah, we painted it in about 5-7 coats over a two month period as we were building it. (frame off restoration). the clear coat actually made it look worse! so we sanded that off and just used paint. its great if it gets a scratch...just whip out the can and it is like new!
