Another Camaro restoration
I thought I would post some pics of the progess I am currently at.
www.exotik.cc/mario ( the lower 4 are the project pics )
It's an 86 IROC-Z. The plan was to get it repainted black...but I took a mill gauge to the paint and it read 16.43 mills!!! For those who have never used/know of it, it measures the thickness of the paint to the baremetal. 1 mill is about the thickness of a piece of paper. Obviously this car has been painted in several times in it's past....so in order to have a quality , long lasting paint job, the old paint had to come off. I sent the car to a local sandblasting shop where they specialized in automotive work. They used walnut shells instead of sand, you talk about a dusty job!! He stripped all the layers off to the factory e-coat. ( factory's term for primer. ) I just picked it up the other day and now I have began to prep it for primer/paint. I have to feather edge all the glass area, door opens, fender gaps etc etc....then take off the last coat with a D/A. You talk about alot of work!! I've been at it for countless hours so far..but in the end it'll all pay off.
I'm going to give it a full makeover basically...new door panels, seat covers, dash, carpet, and headliner. along with a 350 with a mild cam, port work, full exhaust , and a custom computer tune.
I'll post some more pics of it as I get further on, but I thought I'd share my project car!! ( The black 91RS is mine, the 86-Z is my step father's )

Nice- keep us updated. I really rather watch you do yours than actually finish my own.
