Hood Pins? Yes or No
Im getting a Cervini hood in supposedly today. Should I put pins on the front to keep it from flexing up at speed? I dont wanna ruin a *** hood by putting pins in I dont need but I also dont want it ruined from driving it either. Anybody have any input on Cervini hoods flexing like I have heard others do?

hood pins are probably a good idea ive heard a lot of people having trouble because air gets under the hood via the headlight pockets and lifts the corners of the hood up at speed.
Plus they just look sweet =)

I'm going with hood locks instead of hood pins....no wires to mess with and long studs sticking out of the hood...but hood pins would look good on your car too

At the expense of appearing stupid, I can't say I have ever heard of hood locks. Can you tell me more about the hood locks you are referring to? Do you know where I can get some?
Thanks!

Only thing wrong with the locking ones posted is that they are chrome plated. I am not sure if they will rust, but many do that are chrome plated. It is a cool idea and very cheap, but i am not sure how it will look in a couple of years. I have wanted a set with cables ever since Gone in 60 Seconds and "Elenor" had them. They look sweet on that Mustang but i am not sure if it would look good on my car. Any more pictures Cra-Z28?

Ive had chrome hood pins on my wagon for 3-4 years and they still look shiny. Only problem I have had was squeaking.
Hood pins are a good safety feature. How heavy is your hood and how often do you open it?
You could go full race and remove the hinges and hood pin all 4 corners. Though adding oil at the gas station might look awkward.

There have been a few threads with locking hood pins in them. Do a search, you will find some. They look pretty nice. Some come with the mounting plates where you can paint them the color of your car. The only thing that shows is the quarter sized locks. Gumby, what brand did you have that they did not corrode? I would say that atleast 50% of the cars i have seen with them had some rust! Just my experience though. thanks
I might get a fiberglass hood soon, and was wondering the same thing. I do not want to use pins at all. Is the problem at high speeds really that bad? I also heard that it is caused by the force of the air at the headlight pockets. This gives me an idea for a potential solution. Would blackout headlight covers cure this problem? I have been thinking about getting clear headlight covers like the blackouts but haven't found them yet for our cars. Would this help to cure the problem, or will I have to find another solution?

I have 4 hood pins on my car with my harwood hood. I like it because it gives me awesome access when I have to go under the hood for anything, BUT!!!!..... You have to find a place to put the hood after you take it off. But that isn't your problem though, you only have 2. Just make sure you don't get chrome ones, they rust like crazy after a while. If you can, get stainless ones or aluminum ones. I think you might be able to find some at a boat supply store. Just my 2 cents.

I'm kinda up in the air about those. I thought they were the greatest things back when I first put em on, but now I kinda want to get rid of them, but I'll have these holes in my hood. So make sure you're prepared to keep em!

[I only put them on my wagon when I crunched my clip a little and the hood would not shut or latch no matter what I did. Drill the hole for the hood pins and the first time I shut it, it latched shut??? Like the two hole let enough stress out to get it closed???]
I'm sure many people have scratch their head when they see the wagon with hood pins.

Really? And they said chrome plated in the description? Like i said, some i have seen were terrible, and others came out great. Then again i do notknow the brand that was used or the time that had passed since they were installed on those cars.

I took awhile for me to decide...but I'm going with the hood locks because there is no post sticking out of the hood, no wires, and there is no little screws for the plate that is on the hood. I think that hood locks look killer on cowl hoods and such...but on SS hoods....the locks would look better because they are much sleeker. The chrome will last along time as long as they are maintained....my brother has had hood pins on his 87 Z28 for about 2 years now with no problems.

I like the classicness (is that even a real word) of the hood pins, I just cant let anyone open my hood but me. The reason I say that is because I put a real nice scratch in the hood of my buddies 73 Charger cause I wanted to pop the hood and check out his engine!

Only thing I will add about hood pins is if you get the "cheap" kind with the removable clips. Goto the hardware store and buy a spare set or two. Seams easy enough but to many times I have lost them darn things.

hood pins or locks can be found easily at most auto parts stores/speed shops and thru summit and jegs.
if u keep upkep on hood pins like any chrome they wont rust or corriod i dont think i spelled that right. lol my bad

i think ppl sold em there was greatautoparts4u? not sure tho

Hook pins look best on square front ends...like on the beloved muscle cars. They look like *** on our cars and even worse on japencraps. I say stick with dzus fasteners or something like that.

my question to this is,
Why would the hood pins hold down my hood any better than the stock hood latch?

where do they attach to on the body of the car? Any pics?
I might purchase a fiberglass hood in the near future, but I do not like the idea of hood pins or locks... I don't want to ruint he stock appearance. But I have been thinking about making smaller latches like the one in the middle out on each corner. Have it hooked into the hood release lever just like the main one. Seems like an idea to me, but gonna take some fabrication.

I would assume the Firebird hoods would be of more concern. But I would just chose a hood with a good stock like support structure. And don't try to break any land speed record.

cervinis makes hoods that do not require pins. i have one on my iroc... if its finished on the inside with a inner layer of fiberglass you should be ok , but if you like the bling, bling effect than by all means pin away ... im puting them on my ride bcuz i like chrome its up to you tho

I've got the locking hood pins on my SS hood, helped alot with speed flex and allowed me to remove the spring and hood latch peices, so all I have to do is walk up to my car, unlock the pins and release the safety latch.
these pics are not of my car, but its the car I looked at while installing mine, I'll take pictures of mine once its painted.
Here are the underhood part of the pins....they are next to the rubber bump stops
