Yeah, you need a heater box from a non-AC car. Its a direct swap... unbolt the old one, and bolt on the new one. Youll need an AC-delete pulley too.

IROCZDAVE sells the boxes, and his boxes are second to none... The box I got from him, at the moment, is the nicest thing on the car!

I cut mine down in size and refinished it, but you can buy non-ac heater boxes for F-bodies or I hear older s10 boxes work as well, but might have fitment issues.

If you're going to buy a used heater box, be prepared to spend $70-100 for an F-body one.

I have pics up on my website of my heater box if you wanted to check it out.

Since your car is an 86 you won't need a pulley. Just get rid of the compressor and remove the brackets. Also remove the condensor infront of the radiator. Along with replacing the heater box you can now remove your heater control valve because it's only needed for A/C cars. It stops coolant from flowing through the heater core when the air conditioning is turned on. I'm not sure 86 cars have this actually.

Here's a before and after picture of getting rid of my a/c box and heater control valve in my car.
