I'm gonna do this!........ verticle doors
Alright people there was another forum I was posting in but I brought it from the dead and it pretty much never picked up.
So here’s to a new start.
I'm going to buy a Vertical door kit from Street Dreams,
As shown in the link.
http://www.iserv.net/~strdream/hinges_production.html
Now the kit is only $750 for all you need including struts and hinges. It says you need high skill for this so my buddy who is a certified master mechanic is going to help me with it for free.
Now if you look at that link, you'll see there demo car is a Fiero. My question is; what are the seminaries between that cars door structure and ours? The doors look the same exact size, but I don’t know. Also do they bracket up the same way? If so this would greatly improve install because I’m going to have this down in 2-3 months if Flyinlow (with his show car) and zepher (him being rich and all and does just about everything) don’t beat me to it.
I know I have t-top and the seal above the window will get in the way but I already have a solution. Which is to just cut as much as I possibly car off and leave it like that. Just enough so it lips over but not too much as to it leaks.
Next I have a certified master mechanic helping me for free, and his buddy, he’s an Auto body Specialist, are going to help for free since they've never really done anything like this before and they want to.
I read over the manual and it seems to me that all the experience you need is the ability to weld and a strong knowledge of geometry and angles. I just can’t weld. So it’s going to be pretty easy.
If you want to see the videos and you didn't when you went to the link you can here
Small, 120KB, video shows much more but less quality
http://www.iserv.net/~strdream/gr_hi...or_open_sm.mpg
Large, 420KB, video shows higher quality but doesn't exactly show how they opened it.
http://www.iserv.net/~strdream/gr_hi...or_open_lg.mpg
I like the fact that all the other really expensive kits make you push open the door first, and but I love how this one doesn't. Make it look more like a professional install instead of some cheap body kit.
Also if your thinking these might be cheap quality kits, think again, everyone I’ve emailed highly recommends these over other kits.
Thanks,
Shane

alright was doing some searches and stuff, and one company is actually maing a kit for 82-92 firebirds(said nothing of camaro). All it is, is a hinge and a gas shock designed to fit the door specifically. After i saw that it was a bolt on kit, i was like hell nah. So obviously it is very do able.
http://www.carexcess.com/vdc/applications.html
see it there, although it is gonna be released "today" i still would like the other kit instead. I like being able to say yeah, that took me forever but doesn't it look nice.
If your interested in that kit its only $1,895.00
So now i gues there is a demand for the product, just its been too expensive becuase there was never a direct bolt on before.
BUt $750 sounds a lot better and i like how it opens a little beter, beucase it doesn't swing open, then go up. It just comes down then up. Nice like that.

haha no way. I completely forgot about that for all you people with shaved handles.
But maybe since it opens the door just enouhg to get in anways, it might open it just enough do that when you want to get in you can pull it up by the side of the door.

I have a great, I mean great visual ability. I took what I could from the kits and turned it into a working model in my head. Then I went outside with a piece of cardboard the size of the hinge to put in the car. Then just looked at how the hinge would work and how the door will go up. I came up with the conclusion that the door will miss the fender by 1 inch. And that the t-top door seals will still work. I analyzed that video of the $750 kit until now I can even see myself clicking on the play button. I have gone through it in slow motion to see everything that was happening to fast so I could see it.
I also came up with the conclusion that the kit I want opens the door 1.5 inches out then up. Also from the way it looks like he was opening the door, it looks like it pushes itself up, you just have to pull it down. I have a great visual ability guys, and I can tell you right now this mod is going to be reasonably easy. Way easier than Targa Top, but will require almost as much work. I’m not the kind of visualizer that can see me adding a hood on my car but I can see things like this in motion and how they work from just seeing them. I am a very special breed, 1 out of 10 people is a visual (kinetic) learner. Well I’m one of them. I can’t read instructions without pictures and put stuff together, because I am a visual learner. It’s a good thing and a bad thing.
That site says they installed the passenger door in one day but, in their instructions they say do one door entirely first so that the second would be an easy on install. Well if I were them I’d start on the driver’s side door first, wouldn't you? SO maybe 2 days for first door then 1 day for second. It'll be cool though.
Thanks,
Shane

I just have one question, if i do, is anyone else gonna follow, or are they just gonna say good job but i wouldn't do it myself? I mean it seems like something flyinlow would do if he knew that the cheap kit will work. I just think that that is how everyone else is thinking.

actually i found a beter place then them. You give them the info on your car and they make it so it fits for you.
They make each kit custom.
http://www.cardoorcustoms.com
they are $400 right now but they will go up to $650.
They make them completely custom to your car. HOwever they are under suck high demands right now there is a back order, so if you pay $400 now, you'll get it in a while. It normally takes 2 weeks to custom fit them then send it but since the back order they might take longer.
FLyinlow please look at this, this is your dream
