relocating seats
Does anybody knows what would be the best way to take the seats out and relocate them a few inches back. I'm 6'4 and my "GTA" is a little cramped. There is some space bejind my seat and the back one wich I dont use & would rather have it for my legs. Any info would be apreciated.

Don't your seats adjust back and forth on the rails? I also am 6'4" and have no problem in my camaro, of course the poor sucker riding in the back seat had better be a midget.

I'm six foot, put the seat clear back and recline a notch or two, feel like a little kid in there. You must be long legged for sure. Probably have to drill new holes in floor and brace some, not hard to do. I've put different seats in a couple trucks and it's easy to do.

No bro, my seats are pushed all the way back and reclined all the way & I still feel there is room for improvement. I think there is like a 6 inches between the back of my seat & the back seat, i could use this space for me!

The problem with moving the seats back is the fact that the seats are bolted to rails that are welded to the floor pan. The raised areas circled in yellow. You would have to move those back, or fab up some more and weld them to the floor pan. you could remove the rails and weld a plate in the floorpan to spread out the force incase of a wreck. That would drop the seat down an inch and help us tall people.
btw Im 6' and its perfect all the way back.

Point one, Camaro's have more driver leg room. I'm 6'3" and have an 85 IROC and 91 Formula and the Formula feels cramped. The Camaro has about 2-3 inches more leg room than the Formula, a difference I can readily feel when driving the 2 cars (no, not at the same time ).
If you don't have power seats you could try having new seat rail bases made for the seat that have more length to allow them to be bolted in further back.

You guys think you have less leg room, try controlling the car from the other side. I live in Australia and I have my car converted to right-hand drive. If you notice, there is less room on the right side than on the left. I had 4th gen leather seats broght over from the States and installed on my car. While I was installing the seat, I made a bracket to work between the bracket and the floor pan to lengthen the reach on the seats. It is a piece of metal about one and a half inches by about 4 inches and has relocating holes. I used the front holes for the floor pan bolts and the rear holes for the seat bracket. Bolt them all down and there you have an extra couple of inches leg room. It works and isnt too much trouble.

Ah! I have the same problem and will tell you how to fix it. I am 6'2".
1. Get 4th gen seats! They go back 1-3" dependent on the seat more than the 3rd gen seats.
2. All you really have to do is do a little welding You will have to shave the old posts, and weld a "box" piece of aluminum there and than replace the stud. It needs to looks something like this

One guy to ask is "Iroc dave" I forgot his name on these boards, but search through the vendor boards and you will see everyone talking about him. Great guy, very informative and if you need parts he is the guy! I bought some stuff from him and he showed me his pristine IROC in which he did something very similar, but installed GTA seats in his car. It was SWEEEET!
I am doing the same thing and moving my seats about 1.5" back. That is all that I need. My car is apart right now so it isn't too hard to do, but to do it on your car you will need to remove the carpet, but it gives you a good excuse to replace the carpet and the carpet is cheap (like $150) Since you will have the "feet" covers on after you move it back no one will be able to tell except you will be a lot more comfortable. I am doing it some I can fit kick panels in my car. As of right now I would be unable as my feet lay against the position for the kick panels.

i feel so bad for you guys. im 5'8 , and im on the skinnier side, but not a twig. and i have the seat all the way back and as far down to the floor as possible, and the steering wheel still almost rests on my legs. i cannot sit with the seat any further and be comfortable. i have to set the tilt all the way up just to get in and out.

I have the same problem im 6'3" and my head is against the headliner and i need about 6" more leg room, yall are saying theres plenty of room up there- where? I got a 5spd, and my knees are up around the steering column. does anyoe think it would be safe to make a bracket to mount to the floor and then mount the seats to the bracket? or would this be a bonehead move?

Re: relocating seats
I wonder just how many different threads are going to continue to be started, concerning people's heights) legroom & headroom! There are several threads like this, currently going on. Does nobody ? Most peoples answers are already out there to be found.
I'm 6'5", 58mark is 6'8".....Both of us have 4th gen seats & no longer have legroom issues. Not only do they sit a little further back, but they also sit lower, which helps with increasing our available headroom.

Re: relocating seats
Im sorry I didnt mean to kick around an old topic. I have been using search, but sometimes what to type in the search field isnt as clear. I've tried seat rails, relocating seats(which lead me here) etc. A link to one of the previously discussed threads would be great

Re: relocating seats
One thing that I did was got a manual seat track from a Pontiac Fiero. It bolts right in, and lowers the seat about an inch. You will feel like you're sitting on the floor but the extra room it gives you is pretty amazing

I'm 6'3" and I have all the leg room I could ask for. Headroom is limited once I slip on the helmet for autocrossing.

Re: relocating seats
everyone is suggesting changing around the floor of the cars to get the extra room. i didnt see a single post about changing the seat track....
so heres my thought. hack of the bolt locations on the seat track, move the back ones further forward, and add some metal to the front to extend the bolt holes on the front. doesnt seem like itd be very hard to do, and if you where so inclined, you could mount them all the way back and completely destroy what little bit of leg room there is for the rear seats. but who uses the rear seats anyway?
you would could do as 86ta did and make an "adapter" plate. it pretty much accomplishes the same thing, just no hacking on a seat track.

Re: relocating seats
Get you a set of 4th gen seats. They sit a bit lower (giving more headroom) and I dunno if they sit further back/recline better or what....But they do make life a lot easier & better.
