Interior work started.... yikes
Well, so far, this winter's been long and boring as hell. I want to drive the IROC with the tops off but its too damn cold.
So, I am doing the next best thing... I'm working on it. Not on the engine or tranny as I want, (apartment garage is too small)....
Anyhoo - I've got the nasty red interior and I'm going to be changing that.
I started by removing the interior plastic panels in the cargo area. I got two of them painted PERFECTLY with the Krylon Fusion paint and then the rest seem to be "fish-eying"... Don't know why as they are thoroughly cleaned and prepped. Anyway, I'm going to fix them.
I did find one thing very interesting, there was NO rust anywhere in the cargo area as I'd expected. On top of that, the VIN stickers were all still on the parts, meaning they're original. WOW
Im going to be completely swapping the red for black... I've already got the seats out of a '96 SS and an ebony console out of an '01 T/A. I'm going to be redoing the carpet in black as soon as I get some cash.
At the same time I'm going to be getting new door panels with black arm rests.
I've also gotten new window switches, new trunk release, new lock switches. The addition of the 90-92 dash will be nice as well.
I'm trying to update the feel of this car. The interior as of right now feels the 17 years old.
It'll be nice when its done

right on.... i, too, am swapping my interior to black.... i'm curious as to how your krylon-ed panels hold up..... post some pics up.... maybe post some up down the road if you experience any wear and tear.... well, good luck with it!
Would you say the Krylon paint once it cures into the panel looks pretty close to factory black panels? I have all the panels to convert mine except the very back panel that covers the hatch motor.
Either I'll spray bomb it, or cover it with speaker box carpet like the covers in 4th gens.

when i did the interior for my 79 camaro, i cleaned the panels with glass cleaner (can foaming type) then wiperd them off, then i hit them with 3 lite coates of vht epoxy paint (black) the whole thing came out sweet with no peeling and it was flrexible yet you couldnt scratch it. wound up doing the whole interior, and frame thn parted it out sigh. anyway i have used 3 colors of vht. the black is best, blue is runner up and the red sucks unless you put on about 15 coats.

whats the temp wehre you are painting them, and the sun is your best friend, i had a shadow on a part once i sprayed it, half of it came out perfect, the other half, all lifted and nasty, so in the sun at about 60 degrees is good

I have a 35000 btu heater going in a single car garage. I'd say total temp is maybe 50*F

I'm also strongly considering updating my interior, particularly the dash vents. But I have no idea where I want to go with it at this point.

Yeah I think you are right about being alone. I met a couple guys few months back that said there was an all gen street racing club here. I went to the spot and noboby was there. *******. Colder than **** here too, maybe thats the problem. Thirdgens are like a dime a dozen here too. Whenever I wave at another camaro I usually get the bird, go figure.

Update for anyone who cares.
I did my interior panels in Krylon Fusion, from tan to black. And it works great. Going on 7 months and I havent needed to touch up at all.
Just remember, when you wash the panels. USE DETERGENT, unlike other soaps it does not leave any residude (if you rinse it properly)

I've got to redo a couple panels, as I guess the soap wasn't fully washed off...
