Is it true that ttop means targa top?

Recall once reading a '68/'69 Corvette article a while back that stated ttop was short for targa top. Is that true? I think many out there, including myself, thought it was based on the roof shape.

Yeah. I know what you mean. But this particular article was about original design intent for the '68 'Vette. They wanted a fully removable targa, but ended up with a center beam due to body rigidity problems. Then went on to say that ttop stood far targa, and not the center bar. The article is still probably up on one of the 'Vette pages. I could have completely misread it that day, too, since I give more attention to detail to the 3rd gen stuff than 'Vettes and the like.

T-tops is referring to the t shape that the roof has when you take the tops off, and targa is the completly removable top like on the corvettes and supra's and the like.

Wi$h, I believe you are right. I investigated further and now know the original article I referenced is incorrect. A t-top is a t-top, like in Smokey and the Bandit AND in our cars.

Wow. A ttop TA in Poland. How cool is that? So now you're the one with the exotic foreign sports car. Gotta be rare as hen's teeth over there. And I thought it was frustrating here when GM discontinues a part for my IROC. You must see it all the time.

Hi guys

The "T" in T-tops stands for Targa. In Europe various car manufacturers offer Targa options on their sports varsions, such as Nissan (280ZX/300ZX), Toyota (MR2, Supra), Fiat (X19), etc.

Take care, be good...

Then why corvette is reffered to as TARGA and fbody is known as TTOP if it means the same?

I agree, I don't claim to know any official details, but there must be some form of distinction. I've always believed what most are asserting here, that the targa top is one large removable panel and t-tops are the two removable panels - and the "t" gets it's name from the t shaped roof.

On the one Camaro window sticker I've seen the option was only referred to as "Roof panels, removable glass".

i had no idea there was so much confusion. i've always just known that ttops are 2 removable panels with a bar in the middle and a targa is a removable top without the bar.

I've always considered the T to be Twin "2" tops.
T-top= Twin Tops since theres 2 tops.

Even a few Fbody's have been converted into targa's
Trailblazes firebird is one of em, along with the simmon and simmon cars. Me and TPI383 are working on ours as well. He's farther along than I am.

The attached pic is trailblazes bird in its inprogress stages.

An f-body targa conversion. Cool. Prepare for a barrage of questions on that one, such as:

What does the removalable panel look like? Glass? Metal?

What did you do to reinforce the body?

Give us details. Details. Curious minds want to know. Maybe give us a new thread, if it doesn't exist already. If it does, point me in the right direction.

Targe f-body. How cool is that?
