Roll Bars

Anyone Have Pics of 6-8 point Roll bars installed in their Cars from the Various Bar Makers(S&W, jegs, etc etc).

Also how does the Door Crossbar fit against the door? How much Room does it take away from you while driving(elbow room).

Car is gonna be a Weekend Driver with the possibility of making a few long trips in it for shows, gathering's etc etc, So im wondering how they fit into the car cuze I want the extra Protection that the Bar Gives the Camaro's.

as far as the door bars just get the ones where they either are bolted in or have pins, that way you can just remove them for daily driving, and put em in for race/show days

I think kenny brown makes a cage where the door bars are real low and wouldnt interfere with elbow room at all. I think that the crossbar or whatever you call it, behind the seat that a harness would connect to, its not there either so you can still use the back seat easily.

Heres a pic...

From my understanding the KB Roll bar is really only to help with Chassis Stiffening and isnt really a Roll bar at all but thanks for the Link.

Thanks for the Replies so far....keep em coming!! Oh and let me know who is makeing your Roll bar so I know what im looking at

Sweet Car Kandied!! Thats the Roll Bar look that I want. Did you use a Premade Kit and just had the Door Bars Bent or did you have the whole RollBar Made?

I love the way you still have the added Side Protection but its lower against the door.

i had the whole setup made. it's chromoly and it was bent to be out of the way as much as possible but still serve the intended function. getting in and out is easy and i can't even see any of the bars through my mirrors which is also nice. i absolutely never wanted a cage in my car so when i had to i wanted to make sure it wasn't in the way. here is an angle to show where it connects at the floor.

Jeff,

I like your cage but the only bad side is You know its not NHRA legal right? Your side bars that is. I know your more Into the Show side of things but 1 run at the track with low enough Et's and your gona be done for the night. You will get told keep it above the 11.99et. Unless of corse they dont care. ive seen a few tracks like this.

Nice pic TPl383, that's good to know..

My friend and I are going to make a couple of cages like Kandied's, but have legal side bars to put in on race day (pins/bolts).. That way we still have the ridgid frame for street driving and legality at the track..

Love the pics btw guys..

Cheers,

truly legal meant in the way....i needed function over everything else. had i ever planned on building a race contender then it wouldn't matter.

Agreed Kandied... I think I've put off the roll bar way too long as it is, just for that reason (ie "in the way").. wonder if my car is even straight anymore.... :/

Cheers,

Ya know guys, just a thought; roll bars were meant to protect the the driver...and it was originally designed to protect a driver wearing a helmet...I have struggled with this a while and still can`t bring myself to install a set of tubes. I just don`t want to make the car anymore unsafe than it is now. If a accident were to occur in the car, and a roll cage was installed, yes it would be a cage around the driver but what would happen to you inside of that cage without a helmet and a 6 point harness? Nhra rules require the saftey belts to be certified every few years, and that makes me wonder how 20 year old belts would check? You can do what ever you want but, I still can`t convince myself "it wont happen to me"

If you are still looking for pics on roll cages, you can see the one I have on my website, the roll cage is from jegs.

well i use stock belts for the street and unless your car is crushed i don't see the cage and no helmet issue being an issue. obviously if you weren't wearing a belt things could happen but i highly doubt it for street purposes. again this is with the smaller pts like 4 and 6.

when it comes to the harnesses yes most of them are suppose to be certified after so many years with 4 being the max i believe i've seen with rci. obviously that's a personal issue and if it bothers you have them recertified.

as far as my own personal setup. i didn't go with swing out bars for two reasons. a. it doesn't look as clean. b. it's still in the way.

i've been around enough real race cars with the proper cages to absolutely hate it. it's a major pita to have to hop over or swing in and out of things just to take a car for a cruise. with the cage i have it gives me the structural support i need and the ease of practicle daily driving use. fits my needs perfectly.

The harness has to be replaced or recertified every 2 years according to the NHRA rule book.

RCI has a special on now where they will give you 1 free recertificatiaon if you buy a certain harness from them. This in effect gives you 4 years for the initial purchase price.

I think we are talking roll bars in this thread not roll cages. It causes some confusion when we use the wrong terminology.

Well the mounting points for the hoop in the rear seat area and placement of the back supports in the trunk area....Things like that. Not copying the design but it gives me a good idea on what everything should look like. Thanks again
