I read in some post here a while ago about how the 82-89 gauges could be slightly modified to be backlit like the 90-92 gauges. I'll see if I can find that post somewhere.

the face abd the sides. not the underside of them (the side facing the gauge faces). and i also painted the round base of each needle gloss black to cover the factory flat black.

lol. yea the needles are all bright. the only part that gets dim is the tip of the longer speedo and tach needles but i can still see them all just fine. just have to put light, even coats of paint on them and make sure not to over do it.

hey i know this is a few months old... but i just bought these same gauges.. and i have a question

why does it say to leave the stock gauges on there and add these on top of it? i thought that would inhibit the light shining through..

i also bought some 194 LED's.. would these make a dfference as far as lighting goes?

if you bought the same exact gauges these gauges have their own lighting system. the only stock light that is used is the needles, the trip, and the odometer. none of which the new gauges will overlay

you can change the color of the needles quite easily.. i used a red felt tip sharpe pen to color them .. they turned out AWESOME.. im just waiting for my LED bulbs so they shine a bit brighter..
