Arm Rests Mounting Screws

Hi all.

I just picked up a pair of very nice armrests from a 85 maro because my were peeling off. (i have a 89).

When i tried to install them it looked like the upper screw was too short.

Did anybody do the swap and found the same thing or ami doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Hello Daniel,

The only thing you might be doing wrong is using the screws from the 89 arm rest. I have a set of each style and the 85 model armrests have a longer (about 1" more) plastic insert in them than the 89 does and uses a longer screw.

I visited a local GM dealer here in town and they said that the screws on 85 and the same size and a part number as for 89.

Are they full of it or not??

Could someone confirm that??

I checked the part number cd i have and the part numbers are actually the same for both, 20310728. The top screw is M6.3x1.8x60 and the lower ones are M6.3x1.8x35.

Thanks for help guys. That is weird. If 85 ones are longer than why would it be the same part number? So the ones i need (the longest ones) are 8x60, correct?

60 does it mean 60 mm in length??

I had the same problem. I ended up drilling out the older armrests. Kinda like countersinking the upper hole. No problems, and you'd never know it wasn't original.

In answer to the first question, it is 60MM.
For the second question, the screw sits a little deeper in the newer style armrests than in the older ones so he drilled the screw hole a little deeper and wider.

Here's a pic, as you can see the top one is longer and near the base there are no threads.
