Sunvisor Support problem

I noticed my driver side sunvisor tends to fall down at times on it's own and so I removed the screw to the visor itself. Pulled off the visor and assumed I could simply tighten the screw at hard as I could to LOCK it in place. That didn't seem to help. (referring to the black screw under the visor which you tighten to tighten the visor from falling down).

Removed the visor to see what else it could be and it turns out the metal ROD in the Sunvisor support itself is turning. So locking the screw on the rod doesn't do anything since it's the ROD that is turning in the sunvisor support itself.

HOW do you fix this? I seen in the classic industries catalog that there is a "Sunvisor Rod Clamp".. for the 1987-1992. What is this? the description is "The rod stays in place when the clamp is installed." I don't see what this is for. the passenger side does not have this from what I can see, and the rod on the passenger side does NOT turn which is why it works perfectly.

Hey guys, I had the same problem when I recovered the sunvisors in my car, I put on a thicker material that made it heavier. Everytime I hit a bump, they would fall. I made a simple fix, I got a regular drinking straw that slipped over the pin that the visor hinges on. I cut a small peice of the straw, put it over the pin, re-installed the visor, and havn't had a problem for over 3 years now. Give it a shot, and see what happens!! Good luck

Car: 1989 Firebird Formula
Engine: Internal Combustion
Transmission: Completed
Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
Remove the visor and its mount, and use some epoxy to hold the rod from turning. Then re-install.

Being that the screw on the visor itself is screwed tightly against the rod to prevent it from falling down, would moving the visor not break lose any epoxy ?

I had the same problem in my 81 camaro, so I went to the boneyard and grabbed a pair from a lower mileage T-Bird. Mounting screw pattern was a little different, but not a big deal at all. The new ones worked perfect, and I think I only paid like $5 for the pair.

One of the few things you can grab from almost any car and have it look great with no modifications
