86 Firebird Q's Help da Noob
Hey all another Noob to these forms,
I am lookin at buying a 1986 Firebird, 5.0L, Carb, Maunal Trans, Hard top: as a Frist Project Car the car is not Good shape shape but is fairly Cheap still i think from lookin around. I have Read around the site for last month or so.... If i get the car I what to put 91-92 Front and Rear bumpers on it! will these just line up or will i have to do Body work? Would a 82-83 Fiberglass Hood swap in? Also the car comes with some Extra Parts spoiler, T-Tops, etc.. Would it be To Costly to do a T-Top Conversoion? I would have a Shop do this. What kind of Problems would this make for the car if any? Also any think else you feel might be helpful to me. My goal for the car would be NICE Summer Driver, Street/Strip Car.
Thanks

1)if you throw some 91/2 bumpers on it you will also need to have the gfx pieces that go on the front fender infront of the front wheel well and on the rear fender behind the rear wheel well... you could keep the side gfx but it might look out of place...
and you may or may not need to drill new holes...
2)there were no fiberblass hoods made for t/a's, atleast to the best of my knowledge. there were aluminum power bulge hoods on some early t/a's..
you may be mistaking the aluminum hood for the composite one found on some early z28's...
and, all firebird hoods interchange throughout all thirdgen years.
3) a t top conversion is extremely expensive. due to the availability and relatively low price of thirdgens, you're better off just finding a t top car if you want that option... i'm not saying what you should/shouldn't do to your car, just saying if you want to do this swap, you'd be best off if you have a good friend that knows how to weld and do body work.
hope this helps, best of luck..

1. If i get the car I what to put 91-92 Front and Rear bumpers on it! will these just line up or will i have to do Body work?
-Yes, they will fit. The rear bumper cover will fit. For the front cover you will need (I believe) the inner steel bumper, '91-'92 headlight buckets w/covers. Maybe some other little stuff that I'm forgetting. Also, do you want to put the ENTIRE Aero GFX on your car or just Formula/Base bumpers?? If you wanna put on Aero package covers on, you will also need the rest of the GFX. PM Raptor Pilot here on the TGO and ask him about '91-'92 Formy bumpers. I just picked up on Saturday a '91 nose w/GFX for my car and I believe he mentioned he had some covers. Just to let you know, he is busy with some personal stuff, so it may take a little time for him to get back to you.
2. Would a 82-83 Fiberglass Hood swap in?
-I never heard of a factory fiberglass hood. Early 3rd gen Camaro's had a z28 hood in 'glass.
3. Also the car comes with some Extra Parts spoiler, T-Tops, etc.. Would it be To Costly to do a T-Top Conversoion? I would have a Shop do this. What kind of Problems would this make for the car if any?
- From what I've heard expensive and not really worth it. The cheapest thing is to buy a t-top car. Besides, hard tops look better!
5. Also any think else you feel might be helpful to me. My goal for the car would be NICE Summer Driver, Street/Strip Car.
