Water Leak - Where?

Hey guys,

I noticed something kinda disturbing today, and now its starting to bug me.

Its been raining quite a bit lately, but today I noticed that there was a small pool of water in my passenger side foot well. It was about 1/4" deep.

Now, my car does have t-tops, but I don't think thats where its coming from, because its under the dash board, right in front of the firewall.

Whats really starting to bug me, is that I can't see any kind of path the water took to get there. There is no wet "track" down the carpet on the firewall, or down the side of the door, or anything like that, and the area around the tops is dry. And AFAIK, there are no holes in the floor anywhere either.

Where cool this be coming from? Its in that dip in the floor around where the cat is under the car. I really wanna get this fixed before it becomes a more serious problem.

not too sure how camaros are but I know my buddy's GF had a problem similar to what you explained...and it turned out the AC Drainage was some how clogged and my mechanic friend jsut cut the little elbow outside where it drained under the engine bay and replaced it with a tubeing....

It could be a leaky windshield. The water will run down the firewall. I would also double check that your heater core is not going to detonate.

Its not the heater, because thats not even got hoses hooked up to it right now, just plugged the inlet and outlet after I unhooked it from the engine. And its definitely water, rain water. There is no coolant in it, and it smells like rain water. If you live in Sask, you know what I mean, lol.

I'll take a look at the windsheild next chance I get (too dark right now). Thats about the only thing I haven't checked yet. I looked under the car and found no holes, and my firewall, well, what I could see from under the hood, couldn't see the other side, was dry and has no holes, so thats not it either.

If it does turn out to be the windsheild, how would I fix that? Its not cracked, so it would have to be a leak around where its sealed to the body. If I find something, can I just use gasket silicone (its black, so it should blend in pretty well) to seal it?

iv had these leaking problems also. if u dont have ac, then u most likely have the same problem i did. first open the hood, look on the passangerside, under the heater box and above wheel well check for rust holes in the firewall there....if nothing there then i have a couple more ideas, so let me know if u have A/C or not and if theres rust holes there, ttyl

You will have to have it re-sealed. It is not that big of a deal and is fairly cheaco to have done since you are not replacing the glass why you are at it. My 98 sierra truck does the same thing but I am to lazy to fix it since it is a work truck.

Ok, well, I checked around the windsheild and can't find any leaks there. I even put some water over the edges and can't see anything seeping though.

I did at one time have AC, but its been long since removed. I don't have an AC delete box though.

Worth a shot... I don't have to go to work tomorrow, So I might have time. Only thing is, there is no wet "track" going down the carpet and the bottom of my dash (above the pass. feet) isn't getting wet either, and it doesn't look like there is anywere for it to come down from.

I'll take a look though. I really wanna fix this before I end up with even more rust problems.

same here. I had a leak in the same spot that I couldn't trace, every time it rained my passenger floorboard was soaked. Turned out to be a tiny hole in the firewall behind the dash.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the main wiring harness that runs from the eng. bay into the pass. side interior.
I removed the pass. side kick panel and had my wife hose down the pass. side windshield while I looked with a light. The water was running down the wiring harness and when the harness changed directiuns (up) the water dripped onto the carpet. Man it took awaile but I found it.

my cousin had this same problem , cept he has a gtp, the weatherstripping thats on the hood was loose so it would allow water to get into the hood and onto the firewall and it would go down the vents and into his car...i would check that , i hate water leaks, there always hard to find

Adding my input.. same for me.. it was where I had my amp power wire coming through the firewall, water was going down the windshield, along to and down the firewall and following the power wire into my car where the water filled up.

In my case it was the front and back driver side foot wells that filled up.

Submerged my rockford amp under about 4 inches of water.

it lived

Still pounds today even..

I had the same problem. Ended up being the widshield. You couldn't see the water when you put the hose on it or even high preasure water, but that was where the leak was.
The problem is if you go to get the windshield replaced and it's rusty under there they won't warantee it.

How is the weatherstripping on that window? Ive owed 2 thirdgens and on both on the passenger side that stupid azz rubber triangle piece over time comes loose and moves up to high then leaves a permanent dent in the weatherstrip wich always leaks when it rains hard/gets washed.

Well I had a ton of water in my car in the rear in the middle and in the front. So I stripped it and ran a hose on the roof and found all the spots. The front passanger side is leaking from the wiring harness so how do I fix it? The other came from t_tops so I got a t-top gasket kit. The others in the back are from the flat spots in the gasket. Then 2 other leaks are coming form the rear where the hatch struts bolt into the hatch. How do I fix those. Any help will be great. Also how do I REMOVE the mildew smell???

Well, on the main wiring harness leak (this may sound crude but I thought what the heck nobody will see it any how) I built a dam around the harness with RTV and duct tape. I hosed it down and the water runs down the harness, hits the dam and drips on to the ground. I left my car out in a down pore and no leaks.

Cozhavok- do you need a new hatch seal? Mine looks in bad shape but doesn't leak. I had lots of water/mildew and....old puke in the back of my car when I bought it. Only way to get rid of it was strip all the carpets & seats- found nice replacement stuff. But before you re-install make sure all the leaks are fixed and wipe down w/ bleach & water solution. If your soft stuff- carpet, seats aren't too bad, you may be able to use an upholstry cleaning machine.

Or spray the whole inside w/ Febreze
