Tach Mount under dash on left side???
Has anyone mounted their tachometer under the dash on the left side? Like near the door panel area. I was sitting in my car imagining it having an engine and started sticking my tach in different places. I was wondering if anyone has a pictures of a tach mounted like this and how did you do it?

i don't see how you could do it. there isn't any room over there. if you by some chance get it isntalled over there, make sure you take multiple pictures.

Can't really make out your picture but here's where I put mine. Think I'll try mounting it to the a-piller once a newer dashpad goes in.

cant imagine who'd be able to read it while it was over there, specially anyone with a stick
and goddamn, whats with the 10k (or ok 9k in your case) tach's in all these v8 cars
isnt it the major suck that you barely even get past the tiny numbers on your tach?? its like having a 90 degree sweep guage instead of full sweep, thats a downgrade right there

It fits there just fine with the mount and all. I was just curious if nyone bolted one up there. What I was thinking was remove the dash pad and screw through the part of the dash that hangs down over there, then put the dash pad back on. I will go throw the mount back on the tach and take some better pictures in a little while. Thats not the tach I want to us, it's just a mock for my Ultimate 2. As for the 10k tacks and what not, I plan on spinning 7500 all day. I am not really too concentrated at watching the tach during a run (even though you can actually see it damn good there) thats what shift lights are made for. I would mount it on the dash but for one I have a perfect dash pad and don't want to put holes in it, and 2 they do block a lot of my sight. With that and the 4" cowl I won't be able to see anything. I do plan to run my shift light on the dash with velcro too. I will post up in a little bit with more pics.

since you're not using the factory tach and oil pressure gauges, you could fab up something to mount your tach in the original location, or buy one of those aftermarket gauge panels that replace the original. Don't see why you couldn't move and reroute the headlight and fog lamp switches though, if you're set on that location. Might have to cut the plastic back so you can still use your signal / wiper stalk.

Every last switch clears it just fine. I don't have wipers or heat anymore. I do need my turn signals, but thats no where near the tach. I am going to run the tach wiring into the vent hole (no more heat), and when I was out there looking at it today i noticed I would be able to get to the screws that would hold the tach mount through the vent in the dash pad. My car is about an 80% a stripper car. On regular street days the only things I want to be a giveaway to the average person would be the 4" cowl, safety on/off switch in the back, and the loud exhaust. Reason for the tach being there..... people beside me can't see it. I really want to start installing it but thats not the tach I am going to use.
I guess no one has done this before

hey evilcartmen, why did you opt to go with the dual range tach? i didn't think your 355 spun much over 6000rpm. it just seems like kind of a waste of money to me...
i put mine under the center vents. it's an OLD sportcomp monster tach. came out of my daddy's chevy monza. i think he bought it back in like 88?
i want to get one of the sportcomp play back tachs whenever i get the money.

Went for the dual range because, 1 it's cool
, 2 because it'll probably be spinning above 7k with the bottle. I forgot to take my MSD rpm modules to the track last week and bounced off the 7k limiter
3, the combo might change and I'll be turning more rpms.

I love it there. My factory tach is off by like 300 rpms so I stuck that there to keep an eye on things. It's not in the way of anything and it is in plain sight. All I did was put it up,mark the holes and drill 2 small pilot holes and screwed it in.It took about 45 minutes start to finish.Let me know what you decide.
