I paid 100 bucks installed used glass. but after seeing how they do it i will never pay to have it done again lol. this is how they did it on my car.
took off the molding
had to take the wipers off
pushed the windshield out
scraped off all the old glue
coated it with something
put the glue on
put the windsheild on with 2 suction cups and another guy made is easier
more glue where the molding goes
put the molding on
put tape along the molding till the gules dries they said 2 days
that was pretty much it. an hour tops
i heard it was a PITA to take out the old glass but mine came out with just the palm of his hand on the top corners and pushed all the way around.

Dang! Glass shops around here can't get close to the prices you guys are stating, even using used glass!!! The last time I got one it was over $100 just for the glass and about $100 for the installation.

If the windshield was installed properly, it can be a ***** to remove. You've got to go all the way around it with one (or more) of various different removal knives/wires to get the adhesive cut. Likewise, when you install the new glass, it's VERY important to make sure that the glass is set properly into the adhesive. Not only is the glass a very important part of the car's structural integrity, but you need it to stay put in an accident.

My windshield is a little pitted (it's original) and I shopped around a little last month. Apparently, there are 3 different grades of windshields out there! First is an OEM "premium" replacement with the tint band ($300.00 installed), then a "direct-fit" replacement that is slightly wavier and thinner with tint band ($200.00), then a generic replacement with no tint band ($150.00) that amounts to little more than having Saran Wrap between your pillars!
Here is the most eye-opening part of the whole deal, the molding that surrounds our windshields (and countless other GM cars) is no longer produced, by ANYONE!!! Nothing out there is even close! If you have your car painted, gently pull out the molding without twisting it, clean it and keep it! I did, fortunately, and the replacement molding most shops use is about 3 times wider than the OEM piece... Funny how I noticed on my next trip to the scrap-yard, every 3rd-gen car in it was stripped of this item!! Maybe it's the Florida weather tearing them up...

I just did some checking around and got quoted around $15 for the molding. guess I'll have to check and see what it looks like. If I have to go with a wider one I guess I have to. the old one is so far gone won't look good with new paint.

I used to work for a auto glass distributor for 9 years. The part # for the windshield you want is DW1024GB ( 82-92 F-Body) . We used to supply auto glass to the shops that installed them. I would stay away from the safelite windshields, there junk. Ask for a brand such as PPG or LOF those are the OEM shields. As for the molding they still make that too. The shield should be installed using pinchwelled primer and urathane NOT silacone. As far as price goes, we charged the installers around $55- $70 for that shield but then they mark up the price for you plus the install charge. I would expect to pay around $200...

i had a huge crack in my shield, i found out from a rock jamed under the bottom of the glass, i have no clue how it could have gotten there, or how long it was there, and my insurance covered it, the guy even came to my house to do it, it took him less than 45 min, he took out the molding, wipers, sliced the adhisve or whatever with this wierd cuttign tool, punched the glass out, got the next glass preped and intalled, replace molding and wipers, it was quick and i talked to him while he did it, he asked me about my car, how long id had it and how it ran and such, apparently he had owned a few camaros and a trans, and even a s*tang in his youth, he drove a c*rr*l* now, i offered him a soda since it was a hot day and he was off, my question is how come your insurance wont cover somethign like glass, you should check it out

FYI
If you have comprehensive insurance, almost 100% of the time you will have a 100$ glass deductable. Call your ins company tell them who you are having replace the glass and they will tell you that you have a 100$ that you will have to pay to have them fix your what ever peice of glass it is.....HOWEVER, most glass companys WILL waive that 100$ deductable, your ins does not go up for any glass replacement...has nothing to do with your driving.

She knew I had been looking for this molding for some time and she asked the parts guy if it was still available and hot damn - it is!! I thought I had tried them first before going to glass companies, but I guess I didn't! I'll post the part number after I get it tomorrow!!!

After you get the molding, could you tell us how wide it is? GM made two different kinds of windshield molding during 3rd gen production. The "skinny" style molding that's on the '82-'89 models and the "wider" style molding that's on the '91-'92 models. I'm not sure exactly when the changover happened, but it had to be sometime during the '90MY.

He better have a garage or like 12 car covers if the car is staying.
Would be a shame to see that machine get damaged.
This is all some very interesting reading. I know my windshield is ready for a replacement with the countless nicks, scratches, pits, and wiper marks all over it.
TPI-Formula350- can you suggest a good shop in the area? I'm in north jersey but I'm always willing to travel for a top-notch job.
