Project Orange Witch has started:
I have finally started on my life long project( well my friends say it will be a lifetime before I get it done). <br>
I have most of the car stripped ready for the blasters so i set down today and fooled with designing a instrument cluster for it. <br> Looking for comments on the design. It will be made of .250 inch alum. so that it can have the factory bevel on the edges. Also the gauges will recessed .125 down so they dont stick out so far.

Very nice, are you using 2024T clad aluminum for that?

i wonder what black trim rings on the guages would look like.

The 4 gauges on the sides...(2 on each side): I would line them up vertically. The lower gauges are inset a little, and it looks like they're slightly mis-aligned, whether you did it on purpose or not.

....It'll look good though!

it's gonna look SO wierd with an aluminum plate for the gaug clusteer, it won't match at all.

If you're as **** as I am abaout stuff like that they sell this spray paint that wrinkles when you put it in the oven for about an hour or so. it will look identical to the wrinkles on the interior plastics in our cars. making a matching gauge cluster piece.


thats what I'm gonna do when I make my cluster.

I am also making the radio plate and top around the shifter in aluminum. It will look good when done. Also I have a Grant aluminum three spoke billet steering wheel with the polished adapter. The hazard **** is aluminum also. And the turnsignal lever will be aluminum too. The seats will be leather Corbeau or Konigs ,the door panels will leather covered 89 TA style and the headliner will leather covered. I am trying to get rid of some of plastic feel to the inside of the car. With just the right amount of plastic,leather,and aluminum I think it will be nice. When I get the radio plate and console designed up I will post them.

Go with a 5" tach & speedo, will look much more balanced!

Yea I all ready got sticker shock on the prices of the Ultra Lights in the sizes I need.

I sold my wife on the idea of getting the "carbon-fiber" gauges without knowing how much more $$$ they were over the Ultra-lights... Thank *** she didn't care for them when she saw them in person!!!

I liked the carbon fiber ones when I looked at them at a show. But once they are installed in a car I didnt like them.
Heres the console top. I wanted to do the Radio bezel in aluminum but havent figured out how to do it yet. The only option I can see is to build it out of solid chunk of aluminum .

are these what your showing us? there are blank plates to start with for 120 or complete for 600

Ok I will admit that covans classic's Stuff is nice and There Wiring Harness is A great addition to anyone who is doing a complete Guage Swap, But $120.00 for a blank Panel Um NO I wouldn't Pay it. Just take your original Guage Cluster A Template and Make One From Black Plexi Glass or Build one form fiberglass, With the fiberglass and a little Knowledege You can do some very Trick Stuff like Flush Mount The Guages, Which Is WHat I am Doing. I will be using Colored Flush Mount Led's for the Turn signals And Moving the Check Engine Light to Some Where Else so I have more room for guages.

Since My Car dosen't have AC anymore I will be removing the Two center vents and Molding Fiberglass to Fit Three Guages There with a 5" Tach Mounted Below that is molded into it also Angled Toward me. I will also Be using a Triple Guage Pillar Pod.
