Pull Down Latch '87

Any help is greatly appreciated...My rear pull down latch stays on, won't pull all the way down...when taken off the brace bracket the piston will not push down ....

If it is trying to pull then there is probaly nothing wrong with the relays. I fixed this same issue on mine. I bought the gear nut and slides for it. You can tell if its the slides that are broken by pushing down on the unit while the trunk is open. With a little force if the slides were torn away it might go down with some pressure. Check the outside of the clear plastic piece that the sliding part is connected too. Mine was tore up horribly due to someone slamming the hatch shut. If that is intact you probably have either a stripped gear nut or bad motor. I would bet on a bad gear nut or a broken housing which was my problem.

Hey master....thanks for the info; I think my worm gear is stripped as it happend when i went camping this weekend and the cargo area was too full

I'd sure like to convert it to manual and be done with replacing motors...BTW; the plastic housing broke on the old one and i used 3M structural epoxy which is still holding it together

I stock all the parts you'll need to repair your hatch pull-down unit. I reinforce the motor housings with aluminum and epoxy.
