plastic surgeon or coroner?
plastic surgeon or coroner?
hey everyone, been a while since i been on here...
anyway, newly inspired after sitting in back pass. seat and hearing a crunch under my feet and sitting in front pass. seat and sinking backwards, i decided to pull up the carpet on pass. side and see what needs what. well i did and didnt like what i saw, although i expected it...
anyway, front floorboard where feet rest up to the front bolts of seat is alright with a few misc holes along rocker panel. although i did see a nice crack comin from the tranny tunnel a lil in front of seat bolts.
rear, well lack thereof, after about 2 inches from front seat bolts where it drops off, there is nothing. everything is rotted out from the rear front seat bolts to the rear seat, and the one side of the rear front seat bolts is just hangin and the one attached to tranny tunnel is intact.
under rear seat: everything under the subframe where things go to axle is in bad shape. u can see the frame thing where u can jack it up, the little hump where rear seat attaches is rotted away by rockers.
i know i know i really need to get some pics to see the whole picture. im gonna try to get them in a lil bit.... any ideas so far???
thanx for ur help guys and gals..... i dont wanna lose her, shes all i got after my girl dumped me and stabbed me in the back afterwards...
btw, i hate to see what driver side is like, although i already no its not as bad (i hope)

Sounds like you got some work ahead or you. Don't feel bad though, i have the same thing going on with mine but its the front passanger side, not the back.
there was a thread on hear not to long ago about someone else having the same problem. If its as bad as you described it then your basically looking into replacing your floor pan on that side!
If you do a
for "floorpans" you'll find some info on what your lookin for.
Goodluck!

Geez, a '90 model and it's rusted through that bad????
Good luck! Replacing floorpans suck!
p.s. before going in hot and heavy to replace the floorpans, make sure to check the other areas of the car for rust. No sense in spending lots of time/money on a car that really is a lost cause.

I would not consider this a "Permanent" fix by any means. BUT I have a friend who had a "Z" that the floor pan was rotted out. He took some fiberglass cloth and some resin and cut out the Holey rusted metal and then made a fiberglas floor pan. He then took POR and patined the underside of the area.
Worked like a charm and he did it about 10 years ago... Keeps the water out at least...

yeah lots of work..... in response to durtybird's p.s., i wish i could find someone that could look at it and say if its a lost cause or not... im havin alot of trouble tryin to figure it out myself.... anyway, plan of attack is to use L brackets to get the seat from sinking when u sit in it and then just riveting or whatever some sheet metal so theres somethin there and putting undercoating on it... hopefully that will last.
btw: if anyone lives near enough and wants to help me make a decision on whether its another restore project or another spare engine in rotten body, id more than appreciate it. hopefully it wont be for the worst
thanx for ur replys guys and gals
and yeah a 1990 with 180k on it originally from chicago is gonna be in bad shape
