Carputer, Any of you have one?

I'm in the process of building a Carputer (Computer for a car ) and wanted toknow if any of you 3rd Gen owners have done the same.

I was on MP3Car.com and none of them had 3rd Gens, so, here I am asking my question.

If you do have a carputer in your third gen, do you have any pictures I could see? I'm trying to find perfect spots to put everything.

Thanks ahead of time.

I have one ready to go but I'm not gonna install it until I'm further along with the 4th gen interior swap. I'm running a modded X-Box console with Linux installed and a power inverter. I will be installing the console behind the dash so you dont ever see it. I will be installing a remote USB hub flush in the glove box so you can still plug in a keyboard and mouse and stuff when you want. The display will be one of the aux channels on the flip out LCD CD/DVD/MP3 player I plan to use (in the stock 4th gen dash location). Behind the dash I will have a permanent ALDL connection between the X-Box and the 749 ECM. I plan to use the X-Box to tune the car (romulator), as well as display Scan info realtime, and store MP3's on the 8GB HDD. I'm setting it up so you have full keyboard, mouse, display functionality, but also the ability to unplug everything and hide all the connections so you cant tell anything is there.

This sounds (and looks, by that other thread) like A LOT of work to get this to fuction and look right. I see advantages and disavantages. Wouldnt it be easier to stick with a laptop? My headunit (Aiwa) has an aux port where I can plug my laptops outgoing sound and play my MP3's from there. What are some other advantages you guys see to using this kind of setup?

Heh, as long as your getting nuts, throw in some mobile technology and use the internet in the car as well.

I have had a functional one in my 91 Z28 for about a year. It's really awesome on trips, etc. I have GPS, etc. Let me know if you have any questions... I'll give whoever wants it my AIM name and we can chat. There's a lot to consider... but I think its worth it

I also own a small computer company that actually specializes in car computers Let me know if any of you guys are interested. Discounts for TGO members.

I ALMOST did it but backed out at the last second. A touch screen was more than I wanted to pay and without it, it's nearly impossible to use it safely. Not to mention I heard that cops are cracking down on screens and in dash may be made illegal soon.
