will carputer drain battery?
Im about a month away from installing my first carputer
i bought a computer power supply made for installing into a vehicle
my stock alternator is specified as a 105amp alternator
I will be running wires directly off the battery with a 25amp inline fuse
I will have a kill switch on either power or ground wire to make sure nothing in the computer is draining power while car is off
my only concern is it possible to drain the battery while driving?
assuming alternator is fine
should i be concerned or am i over thinking the situation?

Re: will carputer drain battery?
You are overthinking.
The spec sheet of the puter should indicate if it draws any power in its off state.
Also I'd be careful of putting a switch in its ground wire as it might have other sensor ground wires.
A 105 amp alt can put out 1500 Watts of power. How much can that puter draw before it becomes cherry red? 150 Watts maybe?
You can relax, unless you spend all your time idling with all lights & accessories on. The alt won't be able to deliver its full output until you're around 2000 rpm. At idle it can only supply something like 30-40 amps. A battery that is anything but dead will be able to supply any intermediate current for the short times involved.

so what kind of inline fuse would you think be good
20amp or 25amp? or 30amp
