Bondo Over Rust

ok, before you go, OH NO WAY! here's my logic. rust needs moisture to grow, it's pretty much a universal fact. so if you put bondo over it it would stop rust from getting in there, and therefore stopping it from rusting further.

am i wrong? i would really like to know to save some time. or will the bondo not make a difference?

yes you are wrong. bondo absorbs moisture so the rust will still rust. unless you put an epoxy sealer on it.

rust is like a cancer. once its there it keeps growing untill you kill it. in this case grind or cut it out. if you seal the rust in all it will do is continue to spread under the repair untill the entire repair fal;ls out. sealing with epoxy is not going to help it any. epoxy sealer protects metal from mosture but it will not stop rust once it starts.

por 15 does a good job at stopping rust.

Bondo does not stick perfectly to clean metal, so trying to put it over rust is just silly. It will crack, come apart and look like junk. Even if your rust is completley dried out it will still deteriorate further under the bondo. Many people will eventually have problems in "fixed" rusted areas that have had the rust ground out and acid treated to prep the affected area. You need to at least do these 2 steps to attempt a decent repair. The only way to get it perfect is to weld in new metal but that can be overkill for practical people on a budget.

ok, i've got rust near the spoiler in the back, over 3 of the 4 wheel wells, and 3 rust holes in the driver side floor panel. the holes in the floor are about the size of a tennis ball. i have a guy that could probly fix all the rust, paint it, and totally fix it up for maybe 3 grand. but i would like to try and do as much myself. and what's por 15? is it a gel or liquid? i have naval jelly right now, that works pretty well but you gotta leave it on there so long. i'll try and take some pictures of my already primer covered rust.
