Aluminum Dash Overlay Kit... DONE!!!

I finally finished this thing. Well its been pretty much complete aside from the vents for awhile, and I just didn't have any time to finish. This is pretty much how its gonna look I guess... probably do the inside part of the HVAC and radio trim and then a few accents on the doors. Anyways let me know what you think.

Oh sorry the pics kinda suck, there were a bunch of fingerprints that showed up with the flash at night that I couldn't see, I tried to take some more today but I was getting a ton of glare.. Ill try to get some better ones sometime soon. Thats my daily driving floormat too.. I have another to switch out for shows

I used some clear silicone, specifically GE for kitchen and bath cause its pretty weak so If I ever get tired of it I should be able to peel the stuff off without hurting my stock panels

definently has a more custom look to it now...fits very very well too. You could probably start producing that kit and sell them for alot of cash

Its not really an "anniversary edition" All 92's got the dash plaque that sais that. It has really low miles and its a rare color.. but its still an L03 auto RS... making it not soo rare.

Oh and so far it hasnt been hot at all, aluminum cools very well and its reflecting light off instead of absorbing it (like the black panels do) so if anything its cooler! I definately need to get the windows tinted now as it sticks out a bit looking in from the outside.

Thanks for all the compliments! It definately took alot of hard work. It looks alot better than the pics, just kind of a hard thing to photograph I guess.

As for making a kit.. I dunno. I was thinking about the idea but it would just be too costly, and no matter how I did it, it would be very expensive and still require extra work to be done. No way getting around the trillions of different dash emblems, and theres still a little bending and probably filing in order to make an exact fit. All of these were made by hand (aside from the guage cluster) so they would have to be scanned and edited to make them perfect.. then I would have to test fit after the edit etc.. That and I would have to do a very large run of them to make it profitable since theres so many pieces, and I dont have the cash to do that... maybee someday?

Aluminum roof sheeting... a pair of scissors... a dremel tool.. a file... a ruler.. and some sand paper Just measured and drew each of the panels out on the aluminum, cut it out, filed it til it was the proper shape and true then sanded the brushed finish on.... sounds easy right?

You can do anything if you set your mind to it. Redraif made a carbon fiber kit for her firebird, shes in the process of redoing it right now I think.

Thanks man, theres a couple I bent up a tad when putting the brushed finish on, but they can be redone easily I was pretty ready to put this thing in after all the time I spent on it.

I saw your recent post, good luck getting your Z back like it was before.. it doesn't look too bad you should be alright.

Thanks Mike, imitation is definately the biggest form of flattery. Post up when your done, I gotta warn you tho the console was the hardest part!

LD - The aluminum was only like $15, I used really thin sheet alum for roofing. I was thinking of going back and doing it with thicker alum, but it wouldnt look right. It would be raised up too high and there are a bunch of little bends you have to do for it to fit right that probably wouldnt work with higher guaged metal.

Thanks again guys. I havent really experienced any sun reflection while at all. In the last pic I posted the sun was pretty my directly behind the rear window coming in at a 30 degree angle. You could fisably see where the sun was hitting the dash but it wasn't really reflecting just too much light for the camera to adjust to I guess. Its brushed pretty gritty so its very dull, If I had polished it or something it could be a slight problem, but still not bad.

In the process of working on the carbon fiber I have now. Saw some painted with candy apple red and it looked fabulous, so I'm going that route. Going to sand down as much of the cloudy finish and get some House of Color candy red and shoot the CF and see how it looks. Doubt we will redo the kit. My carbon fiber source is no longer available.

Now i do remember a few yaers back at a show there was a vender who had the carbon fiber kits listed for f-bodies. I only looked at the TA ones. Problem was it had the cut out for the power mirror contrls and I don't have that. Instead a friend took my panels and covered them in Carbon fiber.

Now I will dig around and see if I can get find the info.

I'd appreciate it... With the red/red car (red interior, what was the guy before me thinking?) the shiny aluminum wouldnt look that great.
