looks like earlier ones came with it. Like 82-84 or something. But I wonder if it could be a later one (up to like 89) that has just had the spoke covers removed?

No air bag, so I think that rules out '89-92 (?)
Looks like an early one though.

Did any of you guys or girls notice the K.I.T.T hot wheel in the useless rectangle compartment below the light switch?

Very clean 82...I have that same steering wheel in my 82. I don't think my friend with an 84 has it though. I however swapped my steering wheel for a grant one and I found another 82 wheel in the yeards. I took the plastic center thingy and I sanded off the little tab and it fits perfectly into the indent that says Grant on the Grant steeringwheel.
What yeards do you go to here in So Cal?

My general feeling is that steering wheel was used for 1982 and either part or all of 1983. The '83 leather wrapped steering wheels use the 84-87 horn buttons and center plastic peices that didn't have the fake torx screws.
The center peices are attached with four rivits so you could easily swap the center peices to a nicer later steering wheel. Seems like the 84-up steering wheels don't fall apart like that.
That silver auto shifter emblem is interesting. I didn't know they made different ones. The one I got out of a '82 T/A is black with a red Pontiac arrowhead.

I have an '82 with the exact same steeringwheel. Also there was a post on here about the shift ***** and horn emblem in '82 firebirds. Some people insist that their shift **** emblems are silver although in my TA it is red. I've read that they are silver because they are faded. Mine is actually starting to fade in spots and looks a little silver. I don't know if there were differences between firebird/SE/TA or if they were all the same. In the post I don't think anyone had a definate answer other than they were all red and if it's silver it's just faded.

after looking at the pic again, I believe that the silver probably is correct. The pontiac logo is red with a silver background. Mine is red with a black background. I was under the impression that the pontiac logo was silver. But this is the first time I've ever seen another shift **** out of an '82. Perhaps it's Firebird/SE specific??

That steering wheel was on all '82's and some '83's that didn't get the optional leather wrapped steering wheel.
(My silver '83 has the standard wheel, and my blue '83 has the optional leather wrapped steering wheel.)
The Pontiac emblem in the shift buttons were red, silver is just red that has faded away. Some Recaro Editions came with a gold Pontiac arrow in the shift ****.
That shift **** came on all Firebirds with the 200c. Whether it was '82, '83, or '84 (I've seen a low mile '84 Firebird S/E on ebay with the 200c)
The same rules apply for the PRND21 shift plate as the shift **** above.
