Question on 4th gen console swap (Read Faq)
Question on 4th gen console swap (Read Faq)
Ok, I was wondering about the fact. It says that the 93-96 T/A had the single cup holder. So, I want to know, is it ONLY the 93-96 T/A that has this? What about the 93-96 Firebird(V6)/Formula or Camaro(V6 or V8)?
Thanks.
Thanks.

don't know about the maros but the firebird, formula, and ta will all have the same cup holder. If you want the 4 cupholder setup, you need a 98+ unit.

The earlier firebird console has one, but it is useless. The 93-96 firebirds all had the same console.
The earlier camaro consoles are useless for refittment into a thirdgen. They had the goofy tape rack right where the radio & a/c area is on a thirdgen. Hope this helps!
Here's mine, it's a 98 console.

don't get too interested buddy, it's a pointless cupholder... trust me, i don't know who was designing back @ GM, but they really did a ****-poor job on the engineering of it....
I've got a 97+ console (thanks for the correction on the year, thought they came w/ the ls1s, but guess they were just before em) and it works awesome...unfortunately, i've got a 96 dash, and as a result, the console left a gap, so i had to switch to the early model console, until i can fine a good 98+ dash, at which point things will be done...right, finally.

i know i'm probably being a jerk or offering opinions where none are needed, so...choose as you wish.
The 4 cup holders however are well placed in "stealth" positions. You'll probably never see the two sitting in the back, unless looking through the hatch, or over the seats...worst case it makes a nice place to put a cell if your other stuff is to cluttered. The front cupholder is only more functional because it is deeper and has a higher front wall than the previous 1 cupholder version. And the 4th cupholder is the one hidden from view under the radio pod, only showing up when needed, and in opinion...nothing looks more slick than that thing popping out on cue
chix dig it.

The other issue is the early console is very flimsy, the later console is nice and sturdy as the plastic is much thicker. I had an early console first and then switched to the later, so I have used both, and the later one is hands down the best.

in case ya dont knwo what it looks like. 2 of the cup holders are for rear passengers one is located right behind the shifter and the 4th swings out from the right side and when its not open you wouldnt even know it is a cup holder. And the two front ones work quite well.
