Gas Cap Problem
OK guys ive got a problem with my gas cap. First of all the one I had has been leaking for a while. After I fill up the car with gas and turn or accelerate gas would come out the gas cap. So I went to get a new gas cap. I decided to get a locking one, and the guy gave me the one listed for my car. Well I tried it out and it seemed the cap was a tad to large in diameter and wouldnt screw in. It will only go maybe half a turn then get stuck. I thought maybe he gave me the wrong one so i went back in and checked. It was the right one. So then i got the nonlocking version. This one also will not seem to screw in properly, and the cap may be leaking worse then before. The cap is a Stant, number 11823. So any help or suggestions here?
The old cap is a Stant and screws in good but it leaks.

i dont think the problem is anywhere related with your gas cap.
sounds like a clogged vent.
in NO way should gas come out the filler neck, unless you have it WAYYYYYY overfilled.
check the vent, they clog pretty easy. (old age)
good luck

its usually black, grey or white lil plastic thingy hanging off the gas tank. it will be located with the fuel lines that go to the front of the car. the drivers side axle tube is a good reference point. it should be hanging somewhere near it.

my cap has the same problem. i had a repair shop change my gas tank about a year ago. i remember it being a little difficult putting the cap back on after that. a new cap didn't help. and finally today, i can't get the cap on period!
i wonder if they put a different filler neck on?

Did you try a junkyard maybe theres an old one there that will fit, and it would be cheaper.

I had the same problem with a Stant locking gas cap. Occasionally I'd put it on part way and shrink it in cold water when I got home to get it to fit better. Other times I'd just keep screwing it on and off and it would eventually go on. It acted like there was a high spot on the threads. Once it got beyond that spot it would screw in the remainder fine. Eventually it wore in to where it worked OK.
