I run the Hurst pistol grip quarter stick, couldn't be more happy with it. Drop it down to first, punch the gas, push forward for 2nd and when it's time for third... squeeze and hold the lever and push forward again. No chance of going past 3rd/Drive into neutral. Someday, I might clean up the install a bit and have the plate more closed up.

Those seats are nice lookin. The Megashifter gives off a cheap feel to me. Can't stand them in my friend's cars.

looking to go t56 now.

I hated the POS B&M Meaga shifter. I sold it to someone from here. I think DIRT CHEAP also. I forget. something like shipping cost only. man I was glad to get rid of that thing.

Boots like to fall apart if you get cleaner on them. Previous owner of mine did that and gave me the scraps.

I did a custom install with mine (like 8 or 9 hours total) took me forever to figure out where to drill my holes, mount it, and use OEM cable since B&M cable was not included in my 2nd hand purchase. I'm still having problems with the OEM trim plate popping out of place when I grab 1st gear. Course it wasn't designed for a formula so I caused my own problems.

All in all it's a decent shifter in my opinion. If I did it again I think I would use the pistrol grip Hurst. You just don't see very many of them used in our cars since there's not a premade cover/trim plate.

As for the Quarterstick you could check out the Hurst PDF's.

Pistol Grip Quarterstick Shifter for 700-r4 (shows a quarterstick but lists PN as a pistol grip)

Dual Gate 2 Shifter

CraZ-28, where did you get that ball? I am going to be putting in my new mega shifter this summer but the t handle doesn't appeal to me the way yours does. makes it look much nicer with the ball on top.

I got mine at the local hot-rod rip-off shop. You can pick them up at any hot-rod/parts store or even from Jegs and Summit. They are for the quicksilver shifter. It's a billet aluminum ball, here are a few links...

Jegs

Ok, well I coudn't find it on Summit but I know they have them.

Beat me to it. :-)

The button **** one might not be so bad if it came in something other than white (white just looks out of place with all my black and grey trim)...

Have you ever had any problems with the positive stop on the dual gate? I've read posts about how it's easy to overshift if you don't push forward and to the right to catch the stop.

I've never had a problem myself, and I didn't find it hard to figure out exactly where to 'push' and how hard (really as hard as you want) for each gear change. On the other hand, choosing the 'street' gate could cause these problems you are speaking of. A good shove while in the street gate will surely result in an overshift, or even reverse! lol!

Theres a PDF listed above in this thread by me and theres one off summit's site.

Basically it was called a His/Her shifter for the older muscle cars. Left allows for an inline shifter while the right side allows for a positive stop between shifts.

I have a question concerning ratchet shifters+ fourthgen consoles.
Im planning on buying a 4th gen console and i want a ratchet shifter, but i have heard that the throw is to long on the B&M Megashifter and people have cracked their console by throwing it too hard... and im sure i would do the same..
Is there a trick to getting it too work? or is there a ratchet shifter from another company that would work? Or does B&M make a ratchet with a shorter throw?

Thanx

i run a quicksliver on my 4th gen 6 spd console. i had to do modifications to both the console, floor pan, and shifter to get it to work.
i think just about any shifter you choose is gonna give you problems with the 4th gen console because the front is so low.
in B&M's eyes, ive ruined my shifter and prolly voided any warranty that came with it. but that was years ago and cutting and fitting is all apart of hot rodding.
good luck.

Darn you guys! Now you got me thinking about a new handle for my megashifter. I need to cut new threads anyways since it was abused by previous owner. I like pistolgrips but I don't feel like dropping 260 bucks on one.

Anyone ever tried making a megapistolshifter?

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=KeywordSearch

Anyone got a pic of a round **** with a button on top of a megashifter?

seems like a pita to have a pistol grip and have a "T" that you have to operate on the shifter as well.
ill stick with my quicksilver, its the easiest out there, and you can get pretty creative with it because it doesnt have any T or any other mechanism other than the shifter stick.

I agree the lockup would be a pain but it would be marginal since you only need to grab that just a few times. Now if it was a positive stop lever type device like a quarter stick type it would be a pita having the "T" that low with a pistol grip. Maybe I'll try to score a grip on ebay eventually and try it out. I need to get the adapters anyways if I wanna cut new threads.

Hey.. if i put a thick metal plate (hidden by the leather boot) in front of the shifter (right against the plastic at the front of the fourth gen console) and bolted it to the car, would i still be able to shift easily to all gears and still ratchet shift? or does the ratchet need to go all the way forward to the end of its throw before it will shift? Just a thought

Part of the problem I don't think totally from just the throw. The way the megashifter is designed with a plate that shifts up and down vertically for each shift. And no it doesn't go completely forward for each shift. Think of it more as a slight bump forward then goes back to position again.

Check out this thread

Hope this helps!
