Newer seats for the 82

Well after waitin and waitin i got some newer seats for my 82. these are from a 93 z28 that was smashed up in the front. there super clean and great with the one small exception the f'ing driver side front seat is bent to hell. would this out after i tryed boltin the front down and noticing the inner front of the rail is sittin up about 3'' higher then the other side. im so pissed right now too. got these for $156 , there in great condition other then the bent seat rail i hope, just hope the entire seat itself isnt bent to hell.

any way heres some pics of the old vs newer

Take some shots of the seat, and how its not making full contact. I really hope you can get it to work, they look awsome

tim, i have some base model seats (no options) outta an early fourthgen (couldn't tell ya the year). these seats come COMPLETELY apart. start by taking off the covers, then the foam comes off. not really sure about the lumbar, but i am sure if you go slow, it will come off pretty easily. anyhow, when i got mine they were both bent. i took them all apart, put the frames in the vice, tweaked them back in shape, good as new!

hope that helps!

well the car i got them from was in a head on collision. my luck i guess. so basiclly i have to take the seat all apart just to take the track off? i dunno if it can be bent back. the seat sits lopsided to the left side.

No, I'm pretty sure the rack just unbolts from the bottom. No need for disassembly.

Pretty sure, real sure, you can take the tracks off your old seats and they will bolt on the later ones. Might be your floor is made different than the forth gen cars?

the fourth gen tracks on mine were shot to hell full of rust. i used my thirdgen tracks. worked out to be about 10lbs lighter too! pretty stoked about that! try that. i thought you meant the back of the seat was bent, both of mine were bent. i had to take mine apart anyways though cause the seats were VERY dirty. i took the covers off, put them in the wash, and wamo, brand new seats for the high price of $20!

I'm not sure if the lumbar support is hooked up to the track. You could A) search the local pick-a-part and dismantle a damaged 4th gen seat w/ lumbar support, buying only the track, or B) re-use your old tracks and possibly splice the lumbar support power into the 3rdgen harness.

well my car never came with power seats. dont think they were offered back then. i wounder if i switch the tracks and lose the power tracks, i wounder if the lumbar supports will hold there air or just become like dead bags on the sides.

As I recall, the lumbar support needs an air compressor to function. It's probably built into the 4th gen seat tracks. (Does the passenger seat have lumbar support as well?)

For getting power to the seats, that's another matter. Yes, power seats were offered back then, but you will have to run your own wiring to the seats. Or just hack it off a junkyard car and splice it into the correct place.

well i got it powered. had to get it powered to move it back and forth to bolt it down. the passenger side doesnt have any options besides forward, back and recline. i think either this week or next weekend ill hit up the junk yard for a power seat track if any have them.

well i fixed it for now. i put my old seat track in from the old seats. sits level some what but it works just like it did before great. heres the pic f the 4th gen seat track and what was the problem.

what i think im goin to do is get a manual seat track from a 4th gen and then the little plastic panel to replace the one where the switches are, i will be 10x happier with out the power stuff and the seats dont have the adjustable lumbar supports.
