Fiberglass hood flies off!

I was coming home from work about a week ago taking the usual 2 lane highway when I met a tractor-trailer. He passed by me and just after he passed there was the usual gust of wind. The thing that was not usual, however, was that it pulled the top part of my ASCD ram air 1 hood off! The base that was bolted on to the car was still there, and I saw that the top of the hood had only been bonded to the base. Anyway, it flew so fast that I never saw it fly off! And I was looking straight ahead! There was only a loud pop and I looked down to see that it was gone! I never did find it. Probably flew so high that it's hard to say where it landed, or even if there is anything left of it. Still had my old hood so I had to put it back on. Has anyone else had this happen or at least heard of this before?

aw man, thats harsh. I would most def get in contact with whom ever you bought the hood from. Its possible they will replace it for you. I would try go back and try to find those pieces of the hood though, just as proof i guess.

Yikes!

So it didn't hit the windshield or anything? And no traffic behind you?

Check with ASCD if they will replace it.

Is there something I've missed in the 5 years I've been here? I just searched the archive and found a whopping 2 threads that had problems with ASCD hoods. One was a guy who recieved a 'Turbo' hood that had a lot of cosmetic damage / mfg flaws. The other was an incident similar to yours (but an SS hood) back in 2000, and as far as I know, ASCD replaced it for for him.

Not that I'm a shill for them, or bashing you, but a lot of us run ASCD's with no problems at all. Just my

I've had mine for 7 years and not a single problem with it. Only time I've heard problems is from people expecting a glass hood to fit perfect on every car.

that sucks, ive got a ram air 2 hood for my camaro but i got it from ramairhoods.com instead of ascd. Get in touch with Rex he'll probably help you out. Either replace the whole thing or cut you a deal on a new one. Now im scared to go fast, lol cause at 70 i can see the top of my hood moving a little

Get hood pins next time. They help hold the front down. I'm running starlocks. picture
