Weight Reduction
I've been thinking lately, i think over the summer, i'm going to sell my LT1 and buy a 91 or 92 Formula or Trans Am. I like the body style and the interior a lot more and from what i understand, third gens weigh considerably less than fourth gens. I've been thinking of some weight reduction ideas for when i get the car as i have a weight reduction fetish. Tell me what you think. These are the things that i would willingly do to my car as it would be my daily driver.
I'll list the item and then the weight saved (according to what i've read/ been told). Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Remove back seats- 20lbs
Racing seats( passenger and drivers seats) 30lb difference?
Remove seat belts- 15lbs
Remove Air Conditioning- 45lbs
Aluminum Radiator- 10lbs
Aluminum heads- 50lbs
Aluminum driveshaft- 8lbs or a carbon fiber driveshaft (12lbs?)
Aluminum flywheel- 12lbs
Tubular K-member- 40lbs
Windshield washer fluid reserve- 8-10 lbs (assuming it's filled)
Spare tire and jack- 30-35lbs
Fiberglass hood- 10lbs
Light weight carpet and sound deadening material- 40lbs
That's all i can think of for now. Here's some stuff i've been told is good for weight reduction but i don't even have a general idea of weight-
Plastic t-tops-?
Notchback-?
Plexiglass all around (excluding windshield as it's illegal)-?
Lighter tires and rims- guess it really depends on what you use
Thanks for any help/ corrections/ input.
P.S. Is there any way to lighten up the doors? The doors on my 88 Formula weight a ton. Also, are there any other aluminum 350 blocks (or something comparable) around aside from the LS1 (even though the LS1 is a 346 and completely different from any other GM motor).
