Best paint stripper?

I got a good deal on some 5 spoke camaro rims but they were spray painted silver. I'm trying to remove the paint, I've tried some spray on stuff and brush on stuff from Autozone and both aren't doing too good. Is there anything better?

when I coated my wheels, I tried many strippers, but I learned sandpaper is the best method to use.

You can either sand down the machine marks or not. For keeping the machine marks, just get 0000 finishing steel wool, and use a circular motion. The steel wool gets you a good finish anyway, and you should use it as a finishing sand. Makes the wheel surface nice and smooth, and the paint sticks well.

I've heard airplane stripper works really well. I'm pretty sure Home Depot sells it.

I went to Lowes and got Klean strip semi paste, I also am Trying a brand Called Jasco, it seems a bit better,

You gotta get the paste so it will stick on there.

I'm doing rims now and I'm on my 7th application and its gonna be all gone after one more app.

The Key is to just glop it on thick and dont try to brush it all around...brushing it back and forth screws up the oxidation paint eating thing thats going on there. Try not to breathe the fumes.

Just redid the wheels on my old Camaro. Real tough job. Best I found was some stripper at Walmart that had a little sprayer on the side of the can. Spray on a good thick coat, let it sit for 20 min. or so, then I used a pressure washer to blast off the paint. Cover up good and wear a face mask, that stripper burns. Then use some coarse steel wool and some of the stripper to really clean to bare metal. Final wipe with laquer thinner. Beautiful job when done - finally.

Yeah, I went to Lowes looking for Aircraft stripper & they didn't have it, so I bought the Jasco stuff. It works great. I brushed it on one of my GTA wheels and the clearcoat started bubbling up in about 3 seconds.

Yeah, they have it at Vato Zone- I saw it yesterday after I already bought the other stuff.

It definitely burns so pick up some good gloves- I got the green rubber ones that are solvent-resistant.

is it safe to use chemicals to strip paint off with the tires still on?

It's safe if you don't get it on the tires.

Just keep a bucket of water and a rag handy and if you get a little on the tire, wipe it off immediately with a wet rag.
