fire extinguisher questions

I have a question about fire extinguishers I hope you guys can answer....

I asked the people at the local hardware store regarding extinguishers. They agreed and said that it's good to have one in a car. Then I asked them if extinguishers can handle the interior temps from the sun etc.....they just said ".....um...."

So, my question is, can an extinguisher be put into a car without doing something like failing and/or exploding from the interior temperatures from the sun?

I don't know for sure. But i have seen alot of them in other peoples cars.. Even some really high dollor one. So I don't think they would be in them cars if there was a chance of it blowing up.

i have one in my camaro that i bought from a local auto store and it hasn't blown up. but other than that i wouldn't let direct sunlight beat down on them, but i have no idea of their intended temperature range.

Yeah, i don't think sun on the extinguishers is good at all , but like Jay said, there are many expensive cars with extinghuishers as well. But I think I'll just go with it. Always better to be safe than sorry

When I first bought my car, it had an extinguisher on the dash. I snatched that real quick.. it was **** and what not, but the car sat for quite a while prior to that. That says a lot about the extinguisher. I live in El Paso Texas, the nickname for this town is "The Sun City". Needless to say its hot 90% of the year here, so if it didn't pop here, the only greater test might be phoenix. This was one of those single use extinguishers..

I used to have mine on the a-pillar but it put too much stress on the plastic pillar and made it sag.
