Door Skins

Can anybody tell me what the difference is between a door skin for a camaro, and a firebird is... I did a search here and have been lead to the conclusion that the doors from a firebird and camaro or interchangeable. Looking at the information on http://autobodyspecialt.com/ they have separate listings for door skins for a firebird and a camaro, and the price is considerably more for a aftermarket skin for a camaro versus the firebird.. Any ideas on why this is?

actually.. there is a difference between the dors from a camaro and a firebird. Learned from experience from an experiment.. the firebird door did not line up right the front was off.. So there is a slight difference.. Just like you can not put a firebird fender on a camaro or vise versa without changing the door..

Sorry, but I'm about 99.9% sure that they're interchangeable.
(The doors, I mean.)

Thanks you guys for writing… Just to add to my confusion I looked at my year one catalog, and listed in there under part number D45LH would be the door skin for a 1985-92 driver side GM for 199.00 each. Then under the block of text it says “NOTE: the aftermarket skins have been designed to work on all 1982-92 models”.

WILL85IROC: you are correct that the camaro is more on that website.

Angelis83LT: what exactly was not lining up for you?

KEVIN G.: based on this search I did..
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=295458 I think that you are correct, but that is on a total door swap, what are the chances that the skins would be different? I would think that they couldn’t be much different.. Does anyone have some more sources for door skins other then Year One and that autobodyspecialt.com

So the doors are not interchangeable??? But I remember seeing somebody doing a early third gen camaro rebuild, and they took the doors off a red 1991/1992 Firebird and only removed the ground effects but got it to work just like it was a camaro door

the door knockers on the post were not lineing up properly. could have just been a fluke in between doors though. I tend not to dwell to much on any one thing.. if it does not fit, i just go and get the correct model. But then it was on an 82 camaro, and the door was from a 90 firebird.

Technically doors and skins are not the same. the door skin is the outer most part of sheet metal seen on the outside of the door. it can be removed and replaced.
