also..if i can kindof push in the center of my steering wheel its kind asoft. car was in an accident before but the previous owner didnt recall it goin off..

I dont trust older airbags. before my car goes on the road its getting a grant 13" wheel like my old camaro. it ran me 50 bucks with the install kit, and it looks and feels great!

I have see a few get set off in a shop (when they get replaced at a dealer under warranty, the dealer has to deploy the old bag), its pretty loud and forcefull..But I have also been in an accident when they have gone off..You dont notice the noise in an accident too much, the smoke you see is mainly from the powder they put on the bags to keep them in good shape for many years..the powder can irritate the eyes, and yes people have gotten "burns" from the bag on there arms and face (from the force of hitting the bag and it deploying on you). but thats better then no face!

Mine came out (91 firebird) when me and a truck hit headend. Saved me from lots of pain. Walked away without a scratch, burn, or eye irritation. It did stink after it blew though.

I've been hit by two airbags
One in a 96 Jeep Cherokee
One was in a 91 astro van (same airbag system I believe)
slight redness on my arms
no pain at all though, was no big deal whatsoever
I didn't notice it hitting me hard or anything, seemed ok
and when I wrecked the Astro Van I was going 70 mph and I t-boned a toyota pickup dead center
both cars were totalled beyond belief
first cop showed up and asked where the body was
"i'm standing right here"
won't get me to take out my airbags for ANYTHING (except a nice new aftermarket wheel... lol)

oh, and the steering wheel on my 92 RS is soft in the center too
nothing to worry about... It's just a vinyl cover with a folded bag under it... OF COURSE it's soft.
