Remove AT Shifter ****?

1991 Firebird 3.1L V6 Automatic. I have some repair work to do on the center console (floor, not radio area) like replace the little orange shift indicator, and my shifter boot is ripped, and some other small things. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the shifter **** so I can accomplish all this.

Any help?

there is a c-shaped clip in the front of the ****. you'll need to get it out with a flat-tipped screwdriver or the like. once that's out, it'll pop right off with a quick upward movement.

If the Firebird has the leather-wrapped automatic shifter handle, it's more of a staple that holds the ****.

And front of the **** means the side closest to the front of the car. It would be the back-side of the **** as you face it. Put the shifter in first gear and you'll see the slot that the c-clip is in. Remove it with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
