82 Seatbelts

Hi, the front seatbelts in my 82 are fraying, and the passenger side will not retract.

I would like to get a new or a decent set of used ones, I found an 84 in the junkyard, but the floor attachment was different.

Does anyone know if the belts for an 82 will interchange with anything else?

Thanks!

82 was the only year that didn't have the lower retractor on the front belts. You can swap in later ones if you get the upside-down "L" shaped bracket inside the doorsill which the retractor bolts to - it's held in with another large Torx bolt and a smaller 10mm headed bolt.
The larger bolt should fit into the hole where the existing bolt is, and you may need to drill a pilot hole for the smaller one.
You will also need to swap over the doorsill plates, as the 83-up were notched out for retractor clearance. You'll also need to cut a slot in the headliner by the upper retractor in order to install the 'newer' belts - if you remove them from a donor car, you'll see what I mean.
