Steering column ign cylinder & starting mechanism won't align
I've messed up my non-tilt steering column and need some help. I've done a few searches, but can't find anything specific to my problem. It all starting with trying to replace my cancelling cam... Basically I've taken apart too much and now can't get my ignition cylinder and gear thingie to match with the starting mechanism (with the teeth). It seems to be out one step - the steering wheel lock rod won't come out unless the key is turned back to accessory (and even then sometimes not). How do I get it so that the starting mechanism matches whatever setting the key is at?
I've tried keeping the whole assembly loose and lifting the starting mechanism with a screwdriver. I've tried different initial position hoping to match them up. I've tried jamming it - that didn't work so well either. I just need to get less than a quarter turn of the gear thingie without the starting mechanism moving. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Are you saying when your key position is in access(example) your ignition is NOT.If so try putting the key in a position you know the igniton is(access for example, or off). Then remove the igniton cylinder turn it so it matches whatever positon you have the igniton in.Maybe this will work,

Thanks for the reply. I've been fiddling around with this and finally managed to get it right. I had to keep the collar with the ign cylinder loose and play around with the starting mechanism rod further down the column while turning the little gear with my finger. What a pain in the ****!
