Interior Overhaul :D

alright im done with the red...

First question where is the cheapest place to get new carpet rear for now front later and is it worth it to dye the carpet black?

Oh and btw how much could i pocket for a pretty much mint set of rear red seats no stains/fading just dusty if anything. Would anyone buy my carpet?

So is it better to dye it or just spend the extra cash and buy all new carpet?

Oh yes and im painting all the interior plastics black too

Few pics of progress:

Classic Industries has good prices on carpet. Very nice too. Do a search on headliners, there was a post recently with a place that was much cheaper than anywhere else.

Don't dye your carpet black. In my experience, it doesn't last, and doesnt look anywhere near as good as spending $130 on new carpet.

$130 new carpet? Is that just the front or you know of a place that sells front and rear for that?

New carpet will look much better than dyed old stuff. I just got mine a couple weeks ago and it looks and feels great!

Oh, you're right. $130 is just the passenger part. I didn't have to buy the cargo area, I ended up getting it free.

I would say the same for the plastics. The junkyard is the way to go. Red interiors make me want to vomit.

you can always re-do the headliner urself, not that hard, just cut the fingers deep enough around the corners so things will bend around them easily. Did mine, but didn't do that, so, gotta redo it, still ooks 100 times better than my old one.

On the door panels, wish i knew ud been looking, i sold a set of power door panels on ebay from a 92 Z28, all black vinyl w/ good padding and the //// lines on the back (not the straight vertical ones), only got 57 bux for it...really shoulda put "black" in the description, lol.

lol, true...headliner re-do isn't that hard, and i bet you can do it. There is a tech-article on the boards about it, i'd find the link, but im really really lazy today. Just go through the tech articles, and im sure you'll see it.

I paid $109.00 for the front passenger area carpet off of ebay from 1aauto, for ACC carpet. Fit great, all i had to do was trim a round where the center console is and that's it.

Red interior is horrid. i owned mine for 30 seconds before i ripped it out. would rather look at bare metal...i might have done it wrong, but when i painted my red plastic black it just scratched off. looked like caca... black with red lines.. lol.
i settled for a grey set on ebay.
i payed 100 for the whole set, 50 to ship it. there is a pic on here of a tweed covered set, ill have to find it...
it looks sharp.

Red interior haters unite! I went to look at a GTA I was thinking about buying but it had a red interior. I sat in it for all of three seconds before I had to get out. 2 more seconds and I would have yacked in the guys car.

Red is fine for the outside but not the interior.

If you don't mind having a few stains i have a complete carpet set out of my firebird i'm selling. It has a few stains but still looks pretty decent. I'll sell it to you for $80 complete. Pics on are here. email me at scwizzo@yahoo.com if you're interested. I also have black sail panels and i think all black plastic trim pieces that i can sell you for cheap. Plus 2 toned, grey/black 4 gen seats if you don't mind cig burns.

Sorry if i turned this into a solicitation, but otherwise i liked that all cloth sides that someone mentioned. It would be worth the time and money to have that done.

I have redone two Camaro interiors top to bottom and have paid less than $500.00 for each. And that figure is high because one had leather swapped in.

Do not dye anything, plastic or carpet. Waste of time when you can just buy everything in whatever color you want. Headliners can be repaired or swapped for around $75.00. If you are only changing plastic, carpet, headliner and sail panels I bet you can everything for around $300.00.

HEY I thought no one had thought of it yet, and I did it. I covered my entire interior in cloth. BLACK. Looks awsome. The dash too, custom guage panel and all. Even a rear cover. And I covered my roll bar in padds and then clothed it too. Check out my site and pics it all in there, even how i did it all

I was in the exact situation as you but I had ruined grey interior. If you are able enough, buying seat covers is the way to go but they are a very very big pain to do. I tried dying parts of carpet like the kickpanel but the carpet was still too hard to I recovered the console and kickpanels with thick leather.

Seatbelts were dyed but those were still too stiff and dont like to stay tight.

Carpet was very easy but I wanted it perfect so I stuffed areas underneith so that it would meet the door plates, consoles, kick panel, etc.

Sail Panels were dissapointing because they dont stick unless you use a huge mess of velcro like I did.

Headliner was very easy but I had a tiny problem trying to shove an antenna under the front of it because I shaved the ext one. You also had make a few cuts for the dome light and seat belts I think.

Door panels were kinda bad because they make you put theese little pins on the door panel themselves which are a key slot on one end which goes into the door panel and make you cut everything out yourself.
