Paint Respirators

What would brands/styles would you guys recommend? Im not going to spend the money on a fresh air ($350-$1000) for one job, because that would seriously tip the scales to having a pro do it... So, i guess the word is CHEAP...

Thanx guys

Go to your local paint shop and get a 3M "disposable". They are like $15 or so. Well worth it for one or two jobs.

Well, I used one of those for about a year. In school. And they help up fine, and Im sure the school would not give us ones that would go bad.

Rabbitt, def put up pics of your car when you are done. I always like yours and I was wondering if you were going to paint it. BTW, if you dont mind me asking, what color are you thinking?

My fiance and I bought a house last year, and we have been having problem after problem... so i keep getting pushed back.. and with school starting on the 6th, i may be screwed out of getting done for quite awhile...

Hey Jeff, how long do HOK products sit on the shelf?

The 3M ones have a charcoal filter, that's what is supposed to remove the isocyonates. They are not really disposable, but for $16, why buy $20 elements for it?? Plus you get a whole new clean mask every so often.

NOTHING...Absolutely nothing will FILTER out Isocyonates!!!!
You need positive pressure, ie; fresh air.

Iso's will not kill you on one job. Your body will, if contaminated, gradually build a resistance to the iso's. Liken it to filling your beer mug... as it fills up and there's nowhere else for it to go...it spills. That's what happens in your body, it fills up with the anti-bodies and your resistance is gone. But hey, look at it this way, in 20 years you'll make a good vibrator for your wife, as you lay twitchin' in bed, cause all the coating is stripped from your nerves.
The important thing to remember is... Iso's do not ONLY exist in the clearcoat, but the primer and sealer as well.
And protection is not only in the form of respirators, they will attack you at ANY mucus membrane. Your eyes, for instance. You need a shoot suit, nitrile gloves, goggles, and a mask of good quality, designed for paint protection. Look for the NIOSH stamp.

hahah im gonna be a vibrator.. thats a good one. isos are in any catalized paint. so not the bases mostly clears and candies and primer.

yes rabbitt thats the mask i used, paint will last a long time as long as it does not freeze. and its closed tight.

i have a fresh air system and i hate it can;t see crap with it on its a hobby air.. is there any better hood designs out there?

wait, a good NIOSH mask, or a fresh air pumped one? I was going to paint my car soon, and just setup a wind tunnel type of thing in the garage, and try and find a cartridge style mask (I have one now, but the cartridges are dust ones, I was going to get some paint ones)....Would this setup be satisfactory for painting 1 car?
