The 83's with the Cross-Fire Injection were the last ones with the functional SMC ("sheet-molded compound" - fiberglass) hood.

My 83 was an LG4, so my hood wasn't functional either, but it was at least made from the lighter SMC, as opposed to the 84's steel hood.

None of the 82-84 carbureted Z28s had a functional hood....

ok thanks, On that note the FAQ's should be fixed as they say up to '84 Z28 models are functional.

Anyone have pics of the functional hoods?? are they just the same thing just with the holes cut in them?? if thats the case ill break out the dremel

Well i was bored last night so i busted out the dremel and started cutting

I have a rough cut of the holes, ill finish them off probably tonight and put some screen in there. Already i have noticed a 55*F drop in intake temperature

Previous intake temp 185*F now it is 130*F. I didnt think it would be so effective at dropping the under hood temps. Also just realised how close the top of my air cleaner is to the hood, theirs less than 1/4".
