HELP!! with headlight lever!!
not sure if this is the right place to post this or not.
my headlight/blinker lever somehow doesn't work. i can get the turn signals to work and the windshield wipers too. but the dang thing won't let me switch from bright to dim lights. i popped the little cover off, can't see much but i do know that the whole thing moves back and forth not just the lever itself, is like something is broke or is not snapped into place. there was also something else a little strange i saw when i opened the cover there is some kindof linkage that is not hooked to a damn thing. could that be my problem. please help me. i have to get the damn car inspected tomorrow, so i have to work fast.

Take a look at the tech article on tightening the steering column. You'll see a long metal rod that goes from the high beam lever all the way down the column to a white switch on the lower column (under the dash). That rod has to fit into a detent on the switch. When you move the high beam lever, you're really moving that switch by using the long (12-15" long) metal rod.

ok well that makes sense, but um...do i have to take the whole steering wheel off to get that hooked back up? this "indent" your talking about i guess i'm not smart enough to see it cause i don't....
but thank you very much for your quick responseSupreme Member

You can actually access it by removing the small plastic section on the drivers side of the column just behind the lever. It's a b!tch to get lined up and into the switch down under the dash on the column (it's on the TOP of the column, almost have to remove the panel below the column and loosen the column to get to it). But you can do it w/o pulling the wheel. In fact, no need to pull the wheel. go to the tech article I suggested, or do a search on tightening the steering column. All the steps (including pictures) are described in detail.

yes sir i did read that tech article i am understanding some of it now. i did a search also. i got a few more tips there also. most of the ones ive been reading have dealt with the linkage coming off at the switch on the column like you were telling me about. but i will keep searching for one that is connecting the part at the lever.
i really thank you for your help, its really cool to come to a place like this and get real answers.

ok, i have searched, can't find a picture/diagram of how the linkage hooks to the lever. i think i understand how the thing hooks to the switch on the column, its the lever part thats throwing me for a loop.

ok, what is this piece? it fell out when i was taking the cover off and fumbling around with the lever? more importantly is it needed to connect the cable linkage to the lever for the dimmer switch?

ok, here is were i am confused. when i move the lever in the direction of the arrows the whole thing moves even the little circuit board its connected to. where do i connect the cable to? it is unhooked right now which is causing the whole thing to move.

It's hard to describe, but look at the drawings in the tech article and search for the posts from vader on this. That little black piece you posted a pic of rests against the end of the lever, and the other end of it rests against the rod I described earlier. The rod does not connect to the lever, the plastic piece fits between the rod and the lever. It's a b!tch to get everything back in there and lined up to work. Took me several attempts when I tightened my steering column. Hope this helps....
